I Have Over 200 Cars And Still Counting : Dino Melaye

Dino Melaye said he has more than 200 cars and is still collecting more during a conversation on the KAA Truth podcast, where he also talked about his background and his views on Nigeria’s economy.

Melaye said his current position in life was far removed from what would normally have been expected based on his background. He also pointed out that he was the first person from the Melaye family to appear on the pages of newspapers.

He said:

“I have over 200 cars and I'm still collecting more. I'm the first Melaye to appear on the pages of newspaper. By my background, I'm not supposed to be where I am.

“I was in Ibadan not long ago. There was this 6 storey building I saw and I counted it. There were 40 churches on one building. You cannot have a good economy or country where you have more churches than industries.”

His comments about his cars came as he discussed the wealth he has accumulated over the years. He said the collection has continued to grow, with more than 200 cars already in his possession.

Melaye also used his experience in Ibadan to talk about what he sees as a problem with the country's economic priorities. He said the building he saw had 40 churches, an observation that led him to compare the number of religious centres with the number of industries in the country.

For Melaye, the issue goes beyond the existence of churches. His concern is that Nigeria needs more productive businesses and industries if the country is to build a stronger economy.

He argued that a country cannot depend mainly on religious activities while having fewer industries creating jobs, producing goods and contributing to economic growth. His observation in Ibadan became an example he used to explain that position.

The conversation also touched on Melaye's personal journey. His comment about his background showed that he sees his present circumstances as a significant departure from where he started. Owning a large collection of cars, he said, is one of the things that reflects how far he has come.

Rather than presenting his car collection as something that is finished, Melaye made it clear that he continues to add to it. His statement that he is still collecting cars came alongside his explanation that, based on his background, he was not expected to reach his current position.

His comments on churches and industries were also tied to his view of what is needed for Nigeria to have a stronger economy. He questioned how a country could achieve meaningful economic growth when religious centres appear to outnumber industries in some places.

The former lawmaker's comments brought together his personal story and his thoughts on the country's economic situation. While discussing the wealth he has built and the cars he owns, he also raised a separate concern about the balance between religious institutions and industrial development in Nigeria.
