American actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her memorable performances in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36, just days before she was due to celebrate her 37th birthday.

Panettiere reportedly died on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina. Her death was confirmed by her father, Skip Panettiere, who issued a statement on behalf of the family.

In the statement, her family described the actress as a remarkable person whose presence brought happiness to those around her as well as to the millions of people who watched her work on screen.

They expressed deep sadness over her death and remembered her for the impact she had on the lives of people who knew and admired her.

Authorities said police officers and emergency medical personnel were called to a report involving an unresponsive woman at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Sunday. Panettiere was subsequently identified and pronounced dead at the location.

According to the police, investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing. Preliminary findings, however, reportedly showed no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances.

Panettiere became widely recognised after taking on the role of Claire Bennet in the popular television series Heroes.

Her portrayal of the character helped establish her as a prominent young actress and earned her a large international following.

She later took on another major television role in Nashville, where she played Juliette Barnes. The performance further demonstrated her acting range and earned her two Golden Globe nominations.

Beyond television, Panettiere also appeared in several notable films. Among them was Remember the Titans, as well as entries in the popular Scream film franchise. Her work across television and cinema helped establish her as a familiar figure in Hollywood.

The timing of her death has also drawn attention, as she would have turned 37 on August 21, less than a week after her passing.

Panettiere’s career began at a young age, and she went on to build a body of work that kept her in the public spotlight for years. Her performances, particularly in Heroes and Nashville, became some of the defining highlights of her career.

Her death has left fans and colleagues mourning an actress who achieved international recognition at a relatively young age.

While investigations into the circumstances surrounding her passing continue, her performances remain part of the body of work through which audiences came to know her.

Panettiere’s career may have been cut short, but her contributions to television and film have left a lasting impression on viewers around the world.
