Etinosa Idemudia Says Most Parents Are The Root Cause Of M0nst£rs In Society Today

Actress Etinosa Idemudia has turned attention to the role parents play in shaping the behaviour of children, especially when it comes to vi%lence, discipline and how people treat one another.

For Etinosa, some of the problems seen in society cannot be separated from what happens inside the home. She believes children can pick up violent behaviour from the way they are disciplined and from what they watch their parents tolerate.

She particularly mentioned mothers who remained in abusive relationships and accepted being beaten by their partners. In her view, when such behaviour is treated as something normal, children may grow up without fully understanding that violence has no place in a healthy relationship.

“Most mothers (n fathers) are the foundational/root cause of the m0nst£rs we have in the society today”, she said.

She also questioned what happens when parents repeatedly use physical pun!shment to correct their children. A child who is constantly be.aten for making mistakes, she explained, may eventually begin to associate violence with correction.

“Our mothers accepted and "managed" with being beaten. They also didn't train their sons against it because they accepted it as "normal"she noted.

Etinosa's argument is not that parents should abandon discipline altogether. She made a distinction between correcting a child and using punishment that is excessive enough to leave lasting emotional damage.

“Parents also be.at their children for every little thing, making the children feel that that is the only way to be corrected hence passing that same culture of violence/aggression to their own homes", she stated.

The actress further explained that children do not simply forget everything they experience while growing up. Some of the lessons learned at home can follow them into adulthood, including the belief that aggression is an acceptable response to mistakes, disagreement or conflict.

She also made it clear that she does not identify with gentle parenting, but believes there should still be limits to physical punishment.

“Hear me, I do not support gentle parenting but there are some extreme beatings that are unnecessary, trauma inducing and damaging to a child's future”, she noted.

Her message ultimately focused on parents being more conscious of the examples they set for their children. Rather than simply correcting behaviour in the moment, she believes parents should also consider what their methods of discipline may be teaching a child about violence and relationships.

“This is a wake up call to the new generation of mothers (n fathers) we can do better", she wrote.

She ended her message with, “By God's grace”.
