Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed the enormous amount of music he has accumulated throughout his career, disclosing that more than 400 songs he has recorded are yet to be released.

The singer made the revelation during an appearance on the Uncut Podcast, where he discussed his creative process and the large volume of songs he has recorded over the years.

According to Davido, his catalogue contains hundreds of tracks that have never been made available to the public. The revelation offers an insight into the amount of music that artistes can create behind the scenes, with only a fraction of their recordings eventually making it onto official albums or streaming platforms.

‘I Have So Many Songs’

Speaking about his unreleased music, Davido explained that he has accumulated songs throughout different stages of his career.

“Songs that you people haven’t heard? It is up to 400. In my whole career, I have so many songs that never came out,” he said.

The singer’s statement suggests that his archive contains enough material to potentially fill several albums, although there is no indication that all the unreleased songs will eventually be released.

Davido also explained that some songs that eventually become part of his projects may have been recorded years before their official release.

He used “Constantly” as an example, revealing that the song was initially recorded with another project in mind.

“I have so many songs. Like even a song on this album, I recorded it for ‘Timeless’. I recorded ‘Constantly’ for ‘Timeless’,” he added.

Songs Can Remain Unreleased For Years

Davido’s revelation highlights an aspect of music production that fans rarely get to see.

For many established artistes, recording a song does not necessarily mean it will immediately be released. Songs can be recorded during album sessions, kept aside because they do not fit the final tracklist, revisited later or eventually repurposed for another project.

Some recordings can also remain in an artiste’s personal archive for years before the right opportunity arises.

Davido’s comments indicate that this has been a regular part of his creative process, with hundreds of songs apparently remaining unheard despite being completed or recorded at different points in his career.

The revelation could also fuel curiosity among fans about the unreleased material and whether some of the songs could eventually emerge as singles, bonus tracks, posthumous-style archival projects or future album material.

A Career Filled With Major Releases

Davido has enjoyed a highly successful career since breaking into the Nigerian music scene with songs such as “Dami Duro” in 2012.

Over the years, he has established himself as one of Africa’s most prominent Afrobeats artistes, releasing several commercially successful projects and collaborating with artistes from different parts of the world.

His albums include A Good Time, A Better Time, Timeless and 5ive, with each project contributing to his continued influence in the global music industry.

Despite releasing several albums and numerous singles, Davido’s latest revelation shows that the music available to the public represents only a small portion of his overall body of work.

More Music Could Still Be Coming

The existence of more than 400 unreleased songs raises the possibility that fans could hear some of the archived material in the future.

However, recording a song does not necessarily mean an artiste intends to release it. Decisions surrounding an official release can depend on factors such as the quality of the recording, the direction of a project, collaborations, music rights and whether the song still represents the artiste creatively.

For now, Davido’s comments have given fans a glimpse into the scale of his musical archive.

With hundreds of songs reportedly still sitting unreleased, the singer has revealed that there is far more to his musical journey than what listeners have heard so far.

The revelation further demonstrates the sheer volume of work behind a career that has spanned more than a decade and established Davido as one of Nigeria’s most recognisable global music stars.
