Hours after content creator Baba Orobo publicly accused him of disrespect and making comments about his worth, comedian and skit maker Nasboi has responded, firmly rejecting the allegations and offering his own account of what happened.
Speaking on the issue, Nasboi said he was surprised that people were quick to judge him based on the claims of one individual, despite the fact that he has spent years working with hundreds of people in the entertainment industry.
According to him, anyone who has known him over the last six years understands the kind of person he is. He described himself as someone who has always been open, approachable and generous, not only to friends and colleagues but also to people he barely knows.
Nasboi explained that his working relationship with Baba Orobo was limited, saying they collaborated only a few times. He insisted that on each occasion, Baba Orobo was properly compensated and treated fairly.
The comedian, however, alleged that he began noticing what he described as a growing sense of entitlement from Baba Orobo. Recalling one of their projects, he said he secured Baba Orobo a ₦200,000 performance opportunity at AY's show, but claimed the requests did not stop after the payment was arranged.
According to Nasboi, Baba Orobo allegedly asked him to provide hotel accommodation and later requested that he use his social media platform to help raise money for a car because of the distance he travelled.
Sharing his thoughts, Nasboi wrote:
"If you've known me for the last six years, you know I'm an open book. I've been kind not just to those close to me, but often to strangers as well. So, if you're going to judge me based on one person’s complaint, despite over 500 people I’ve worked with, then there's little I can do. I worked with this man maybe five times, and every single time he was sorted. But I noticed he had a deep problem with entitlement. I even gave him a job with AY, paid at 200k in one night.
but he still kept calling me to provide a hotel. and even asked me to get my followers to help him buy a car because he was coming from far. I will not face the consequences of his entitlement. If you choose to judge me by that, then there's absolutely nothing I can do.
In this space, I’ve met different kinds of people. I've met people who believe that the moment they associate with you, they're supposed to have money like you. I've met people who don’t even understand the business but expect you to pay them 1 million just because you featured them in a skit, simply because they believe you make money from your content.
I've met people who say.."
Nasboi's response comes after Baba Orobo alleged that he was told he had "no value" when he requested transport money to honour a job invitation. While Baba Orobo believes he was unfairly treated, Nasboi maintains that the disagreement had nothing to do with anyone's value and everything to do with expectations he considered unreasonable.
