Seun Kuti has launched a scathing attack on social commentator VeryDarkMan following comments linking the release of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren and their teachers to a recent protest.
The disagreement began after VeryDarkMan celebrated the safe return of the victims and called on the Federal Government to provide rehabilitation and psychological support for the children. In the course of discussions surrounding the development, claims emerged that the recent protest in Oyo State contributed to the government's efforts to secure the victims' freedom.
Reacting to the claim, Seun Kuti strongly disagreed and accused his former friend of misleading Nigerians. He questioned the basis of the assertion and argued that there was no evidence to support the idea that the protest was responsible for the rescue.
The Afrobeat singer also took aim at VeryDarkMan's record as an activist, insisting that despite his public campaigns and online influence, he has not delivered any meaningful change in the country. Seun further alleged that the Oyo protest had a different motive, claiming it was mainly an opportunity for VeryDarkMan to meet Governor Seyi Makinde rather than an effort to influence the release of the abducted victims.
Expressing his frustration, Seun did not hold back in his criticism, describing VeryDarkMan as someone who constantly makes misleading claims for attention.
He said:
«"So why is Very daft man deceiving Nig£rians? I heard he said it was as a result of the protest him and his fellow rats boys did few weeks ago that prompted the Govt to quickly rescue the orire student and their teachers? Why is Very daft man so stupid? Pls can anyone tell me one thing he has spoken about that change has happened ? Absolutely nothing, he hasn't made any impact in Nigeria, him going to Oyo state to protest was basically to meet Seyi Makinde. He doesn't have anything good to offer Nigeria, his a Pathological Liar always looking for what to feed on. If he truly wants to help all the rats following him he should tell the Govt to provide jobs for them atleast they will stop constituting nuisance on social media."»
The comments add another chapter to the growing public disagreement between the two, who were once known to share a close relationship. Their exchanges have increasingly played out in public, with both men expressing opposing views on national issues and each other's activities.
While Seun Kuti rejected the suggestion that the protest influenced the release of the schoolchildren and teachers, VeryDarkMan has maintained that the victims deserve continued support following their return, particularly in the area of rehabilitation and mental health care after spending more than 50 days in captivity.
Neither the Federal Government nor the Oyo State Government has officially stated that the protest played any role in the operation that led to the victims' release. The exchange therefore remains a war of words over differing opinions on what contributed to the outcome, while attention continues to focus on the welfare and recovery of the freed schoolchildren and their teachers.
