Try Not To Steal This Period - Pastor Odumeje Warns Of H.arsh Consequences For Theft As Hardship Bites

Pastor Chukwuemeka Odumeje has urged Nigerians to stay away from stealing, warning that the country's current economic situation has made the consequences of such acts far more dangerous than many people realise.

The popular cleric delivered the message while preaching to members of his church, where he spoke about the growing frustration among many Nigerians as they grapple with the rising cost of living and other economic challenges. According to him, the level of public anger has increased significantly, and people accused of theft now face a much greater risk of violent retaliation from angry crowds.

Odumeje appealed to anyone involved in stealing to reconsider their actions before it is too late. He stressed that although stealing has never been acceptable, the present atmosphere in the country has made it even riskier because members of the public are more likely to react aggressively when they catch someone committing the offence.

Speaking during his sermon, he said:

“If you steal, please I beg you in the name of God, this is not the best time to do it. It’s better you stop now because if you’re caught, the kind of punishment you’ll receive these days will be severe.

Many Nigerians are taking out their frustration over the hardship under Tinubu’s government on anyone caught stealing because you will suffer in vain.”

The preacher explained that his message was intended as a warning rather than an endorsement of violence. He encouraged people to avoid putting themselves in situations that could end tragically, noting that the current mood across the country means even a minor crime can quickly escalate into a life-threatening encounter.

His remarks come at a time when many Nigerians continue to express concern over the economic realities facing households. Rising prices of food, transportation and other basic necessities have placed additional pressure on families, leaving many people struggling to make ends meet.

Odumeje's comments focused on the need for personal responsibility despite the difficult circumstances. He urged people to seek lawful ways of earning a living instead of turning to crime, warning that the consequences could be devastating.

By cautioning against theft, the cleric emphasised that no one should risk losing their life or suffering serious harm over actions that could be avoided. His message was a reminder that, regardless of the challenges people may be facing, making the wrong decision could lead to irreversible consequences.
