Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has secured another major international milestone after being appointed executive music producer and curator of the soundtrack for the highly anticipated fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone.
The announcement has further highlighted the growing influence of Nigerian artistes in Hollywood, with Tems set to play a key role in shaping the sound and musical direction of one of the biggest African-inspired fantasy projects to date.
Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, confirmed the development, revealing that the singer will not only oversee the soundtrack but will also contribute three original songs to the movie.
The news was initially announced by Wilson Morales, founder of BlackFilmandTV, following the trailer launch event for the film in New York City.
According to Morales, director Gina Prince-Bythewood revealed Tems’ involvement during the event, while also confirming that fellow Nigerian superstar Burna Boy will join the project as an executive music consultant.
“At the trailer launch event in New York City for Paramount Pictures’ upcoming epic fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone, director Gina Prince-Bythewood announced that singer Tems will executive music produce and curate the soundtrack for the film. She also contributed three songs. Burna Boy is coming on board as the executive music consultant,” Morales wrote.
Awoniyi later confirmed the announcement in a post shared on X, celebrating the achievement and teasing fans about Tems’ contribution to the upcoming soundtrack.
“Executive Music Producer & Curator of the Children of Blood and Bone soundtrack. Our very own @temsbaby. Three brand new Tems songs. Coming soon,” he wrote.
The appointment marks another major achievement in Tems’ rapidly expanding global career. The singer has established herself as one of Nigeria’s most recognised voices internationally, earning critical acclaim for her unique vocal style and collaborations with some of the world’s biggest artistes.
Her success has included a Grammy Award win, global chart appearances and collaborations with international stars, making her one of the leading figures responsible for bringing Afrobeats and African sounds to a wider audience.
The announcement also comes shortly after the release of the film’s first official trailer, which introduced fans to Nigerian singer Ayra Starr’s acting debut.
Ayra Starr, who will portray an undisclosed character in the adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, previously described the project as her first major acting role.
The trailer also featured Tems’ hit song “Me & U”, further connecting the singer’s music to the upcoming fantasy epic.
Children of Blood and Bone is based on Adeyemi’s acclaimed novel, which draws inspiration from Yorùbá mythology and follows the story of Zelie, a young woman fighting to restore magic to her people after it was taken away by a powerful monarchy.
The film explores themes of identity, oppression, courage and the struggle for justice while bringing African-inspired fantasy storytelling to a global audience.
The movie features an impressive cast that includes Hollywood stars such as Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lashana Lynch, Damson Idris, alongside Nigerian actors including Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ayra Starr.
With Tems leading the soundtrack and Burna Boy contributing as executive music consultant, the project is expected to showcase African music on an even larger international platform.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and produced by Paramount Pictures, Children of Blood and Bone is scheduled to premiere in cinemas worldwide on January 15, 2027.
The involvement of Tems and Burna Boy adds another layer of Nigerian representation to the film, reinforcing the increasing presence of African creatives in major global entertainment productions.
As anticipation continues to build, Children of Blood and Bone is positioned not only as a major fantasy release but also as a celebration of African culture, storytelling and music on the world stage.
