Nollywood actor Ikechukwu Nweke has made an emotional appeal for financial assistance after revealing that he has been battling colon cancer for more than a year.
The actor shared his health journey in a heartfelt video posted on his Instagram page on Friday, explaining that he has exhausted millions of naira on medical treatment and can no longer shoulder the financial burden alone.
Titled “My Cancer Journey,” the video details the challenges he has faced since receiving the life-changing diagnosis in 2025 and his determination to continue fighting the disease.
Actor Opens Up About Cancer Diagnosis
According to Nweke, he was diagnosed with colon cancer last year and initially decided to keep his condition away from the public.
He explained that he hoped to overcome the illness privately while focusing on his treatment and recovery.
However, as the cost of medical care continued to increase, the actor said he reached a point where seeking public support became unavoidable.
Nweke disclosed that he has already spent more than ₦15 million on treatment since his diagnosis.
The expenses, he said, include chemotherapy sessions, radiotherapy, laboratory investigations, medical scans and prescribed medications.
Financial Burden Becomes Overwhelming
The actor revealed that despite the significant amount already spent on treatment, his medical journey is far from over.
According to him, doctors have advised that he must continue with another critical stage of treatment to improve his chances of making a full recovery.
He explained that discontinuing or delaying treatment could affect his health, but the financial demands have become too heavy for him and his family to manage alone.
Nweke said the decision to publicly share his health struggle came after exhausting available resources.
Appreciates Family And Colleagues
While appealing for support, the actor expressed gratitude to members of his family and several colleagues within the Nigerian movie industry who have stood by him throughout the difficult period.
He specifically acknowledged actresses Uche Nancy, Destiny Etiko, Lizzy Gold and Ebele Okaro for offering financial and emotional support during his treatment.
According to Nweke, their encouragement has helped him remain hopeful despite the challenges.
Emotional Appeal To Nigerians
In the video, the actor appealed directly to Nigerians, asking for prayers, financial assistance and support in sharing his message with others.
He stressed that every contribution, regardless of the amount, would help him continue the treatment recommended by his doctors.
“Good morning, good afternoon and good evening from wherever you are watching me from, I was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. I have been trying so hard to manage it privately.
“I have spent a lot of money and my family members have contributed a whole lot. People close to me like Destiny Etiko, Uche Nancy, Lizzy Gold, Ebele Okaro, among others have also been supportive.
“Unfortunately, my battle is not over yet. My doctors have advised that I must continue with the next phase of my treatment to give me the best chance of a full recovery.
“I cannot afford to stop or skip this stage, but the financial burden has become overwhelming.
“Today, I’m humbly asking for your help. No amount is too small. Your support, your prayers, and even sharing this video can make a real difference in my fight for life,” he said.
Growing Support From Fans
Following the release of the video, fans, colleagues and well-wishers have continued to send messages of encouragement across social media.
Many have also shared the actor’s appeal in hopes of helping him reach more people willing to support his treatment.
Colon cancer remains one of the major health conditions requiring prolonged and often expensive medical care, making financial assistance crucial for many patients undergoing treatment.
As Nweke continues his fight against the disease, he remains hopeful that the generosity of Nigerians and continued support from loved ones will help him complete the next stage of his treatment and move closer to recovery.
