Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Faithia Williams has vowed to pursue legal action against those behind a false social media report that claimed she had died.

The award-winning actress, popularly known as Faithia Balogun, became the latest victim of an online death hoax after misleading posts circulated across social media platforms alleging that she had passed away in a hospital in Ikeja.

Reacting to the viral claims, her management team released an official statement dismissing the reports as entirely false and malicious.

The statement confirmed that the actress is alive, healthy and in good condition, urging the public to ignore the fabricated story.

According to her representatives, the false report caused unnecessary panic among family members, colleagues, friends and fans, many of whom reached out to verify the information.

The management also revealed that legal steps have already been initiated to identify and prosecute the individuals responsible for creating and spreading the misinformation.

They maintained that publishing false and defamatory stories about public figures is unacceptable and should carry consequences.

The statement further appealed to bloggers, media outlets and social media users to verify information before sharing it, warning that the spread of unconfirmed reports can have serious emotional and reputational consequences.

Faithia Williams' case highlights the growing problem of misinformation on social media, where fabricated stories can spread rapidly within minutes.

In recent years, several Nigerian celebrities have been forced to publicly deny rumours about their deaths after fake reports gained traction online.

Veteran actor Olu Jacobs was among those affected when false claims about his death circulated on social media, prompting his wife, actress Joke Silva, and family members to reassure Nigerians that he was alive.

Similar rumours have also targeted respected actors Pete Edochie and Odunlade Adekola, both of whom have repeatedly dismissed fake reports concerning their wellbeing.

These recurring incidents have sparked renewed conversations about the dangers of fake news and the need for greater accountability on digital platforms.

Entertainment stakeholders have repeatedly called for stricter measures against individuals who deliberately create false stories to attract online engagement.

Legal experts have also noted that spreading defamatory content can expose offenders to civil and criminal liability, particularly when such information damages a person's reputation or causes emotional distress.

Although celebrity death hoaxes have become increasingly common worldwide, many believe stronger enforcement of existing laws is needed to discourage the practice in Nigeria.

For Faithia Williams, the decision to seek legal redress signals a determination to protect her reputation while sending a clear message that false information should not be treated as harmless online content.

Her management has thanked fans and well-wishers for their concern and support, while reiterating that the actress remains healthy and continues to focus on her career despite the unfortunate incident.
