Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker and theatre producer Bolanle Austen-Peters is set to take her acclaimed stage production “Dear Kaffy: Diary of a Single Woman” to London, marking the play’s first appearance in the United Kingdom.
The production, which has already received positive reception following successful performances in Lagos and South Africa, will make its UK debut with a limited three-day theatre run, bringing an emotional and entertaining Nigerian story to international audiences.
Produced by BAP Productions, the stage play explores themes of love, identity, family expectations and the pressures faced by women navigating modern society.
A Story Of Love, Choices And Self-Discovery
“Dear Kaffy: Diary of a Single Woman” follows the journey of Kikelomo Olota, popularly known as Kike, a successful 35-year-old woman living in Lagos.
Despite her achievements, Kike finds herself facing questions about relationships, marriage, personal fulfilment and societal expectations.
As she experiences different romantic encounters and confronts the opinions of family and society, she begins to reflect on what happiness truly means and whether she should follow traditional expectations or create her own path.
The production presents the realities of a woman trying to balance career success, emotional needs and the pressure to meet society’s definition of a fulfilled life.
Through humour, music, drama and moments of deep reflection, the play captures the struggles many people face while searching for love, purpose and personal freedom.
African Storytelling Takes Centre Stage In London
Although the story is deeply connected to Lagos, the themes explored in “Dear Kaffy” are expected to appeal to audiences beyond Nigeria.
The production highlights experiences that are familiar across different cultures, particularly among members of the African diaspora who often navigate similar questions about identity, relationships and cultural expectations.
By bringing the play to London, Austen-Peters continues her commitment to showcasing African stories on international stages and demonstrating the global appeal of Nigerian theatre.
The London performance is also expected to strengthen the connection between Nigerian creatives and international audiences who continue to embrace African entertainment.
Bolanle Austen-Peters’ Legacy In Theatre
The production adds to the impressive catalogue of stage works created by Austen-Peters, who has become one of Nigeria’s most respected names in theatre and filmmaking.

Austen-Peters Speaks On Production
Speaking ahead of the London premiere, Austen-Peters said the play is a celebration of resilience, self-worth and the courage to make personal choices.
She explained that while Kike’s journey begins in Lagos, the emotions and challenges explored in the story are universal.
“We are delighted to bring Dear Kaffy to London. This is a story about self-worth, resilience, and finding the courage to define your own path. While Kike’s story is rooted in Lagos, her experiences are universal. We look forward to sharing this production with audiences in the UK and celebrating the richness of African storytelling on a global stage,” she said.
