For Sheggz, turning 30 has come with more than just another birthday. It has also brought a different understanding of what love really means.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate recently reflected on how his experiences have reshaped the way he approaches relationships. Looking back, he admitted that there was a time when he believed the key to lasting love was simply finding the right person. Today, he sees things very differently.
According to him, relationships are not just about discovering someone else's strengths and flaws. They also have a way of revealing parts of ourselves that we may not even realize exist until we're emotionally invested in another person.
Taking to his Instagram page, Sheggz explained that every relationship he has been in, whether it looked perfect from the outside or came with difficult lessons, has contributed to his personal growth. Rather than regretting those experiences, he says they have helped him better understand himself and what truly matters in a healthy relationship.
Sharing his thoughts, he said:
"I used to think love was about finding the right person, but at 30, I don’t believe that anymore.
I have had relationships that looked amazing on the outside and I have had relationships that completely humbled me, but every single one taught me something. One of the biggest lesson that I learnt is, love doesn’t just expose the other person, it also exposes you. Your ego, your communication, your insecurities, your patience and the parts to be you thought were perfect.
I used to think the best relationships were with people that didn’t challenge me. Now, I have realized that the best relationships are the relationship that challenge you to be the best version of yourself constantly. So these days, I’m less impressed by chemistry, but I’m more impressed by consistency. Can we communicate when we are upset? Can we take accountability when we are wrong? Can we protect each other’s peace instead of just trying to prove that you are right or I’m right?
At 30, I don’t think love is finding someone that’s perfect, I think love is two imperfect people coming together to grow, respect each other and build something special together, and yea, that’s the situation I’m trying to build, not perfection, just my version of what’s perfect basically."
His reflections show just how much his priorities have evolved over the years. While attraction and chemistry once stood out to him, he now places greater value on consistency, honest communication and the willingness to grow together through life's challenges.
For Sheggz, the idea of a successful relationship is no longer tied to perfection. Instead, he believes the strongest partnerships are built by two people who are prepared to learn, take responsibility when necessary, respect each other and keep choosing one another, even when things are not always easy.
At this stage of his life, he says he is no longer searching for someone without flaws. What matters most to him is finding a relationship where both people are committed to building something meaningful together, one day at a time.
