Veteran Nollywood actress Omotunde Apinke Ogundimu has made an emotional appeal for financial assistance after revealing that she is battling cervical cancer.
The actress opened up about her health challenges during an interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, where she spoke candidly about the physical pain, emotional struggles and financial burden that have accompanied her diagnosis.
According to Ogundimu, the illness was confirmed after she underwent a series of medical examinations, bringing devastating news that she said completely changed her life.
She explained that the pain has become increasingly difficult to endure and admitted that she never imagined she would one day be diagnosed with cancer.
“The pain is too severe. I did these tests, and I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Why did it happen to me? I am very easy-going,” she said.
Family Standing By Her
Despite the difficult circumstances, the actress expressed gratitude for the unwavering support she has received from her children, describing them as her greatest source of strength throughout the ordeal.
Ogundimu revealed that her children have devoted themselves to her care, using their personal income to fund her treatment while sacrificing their own needs and ambitions.
She acknowledged that watching them put their lives on hold to care for her has been both heartbreaking and inspiring.
“I have reached out to people, and they have helped me. My children have been spending all their income on me, neglecting their own needs. For them to put their own lives on hold to take care of me. But I thank God for blessing me with them,” she said.
The actress also appreciated everyone who has already contributed to her treatment, saying every act of kindness has helped ease some of the burden she and her family have been carrying.
Difficult Decision To Ask For Help
Ogundimu admitted that publicly asking for financial assistance was not an easy decision.
She explained that she initially struggled with the idea because she feared criticism and negative reactions from some people.
However, as the cost of treatment continued to rise, she decided she had no choice but to seek help from compassionate Nigerians willing to support her recovery.
“So I said, ‘Let me do what I wouldn’t do because I know some people will bully me, while others will help me,’” she said.
Her appeal reflects the difficult reality many individuals battling life-threatening illnesses face, especially when long-term medical care places enormous pressure on family finances.
Pleads For Mercy
Fighting back emotion during the interview, Ogundimu pleaded with Nigerians to remember her in their prayers and offer any financial assistance they can.
She said her greatest desire is simply to recover and return to good health, stressing that the pain associated with cervical cancer has been almost unbearable.
The actress also prayed that no one, including her enemies, would ever have to experience the suffering caused by the disease.
“I want to be fine. I want to be healed. The pain is severe. I don’t pray for my enemies to have cancer. Please, have mercy on me. Please, I have nobody,” she appealed.
Support From The Entertainment Community
Her revelation has already begun generating reactions within the entertainment industry, with fans and colleagues expressing sympathy and offering prayers for her recovery.
The appeal also highlights the growing conversations around healthcare support for veteran entertainers, many of whom often face significant medical expenses during serious illnesses.
Supporters have continued encouraging members of the public to contribute in whatever way they can, noting that even small donations could help reduce the financial pressure on the actress and her family.
As Ogundimu continues treatment, many Nigerians are hoping she receives the assistance she needs to overcome the illness and regain her health.
Her heartfelt appeal serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, community support and standing with those facing difficult health battles.
