Nigerian singer Spyro has spoken about the personal values that influence his music career, revealing that his Christian faith plays a major role in the kind of songs, music videos and collaborations he agrees to.
Speaking during an interview with TVC, the "Who Is Your Guy?" crooner said he has set clear boundaries for anyone working with him, stressing that he is intentional about the message his music and visuals project.
According to Spyro, there are certain things he simply will not tolerate in any production he is involved in, regardless of who the other artist is.
"You can't be in a video with me and you're smoking. That can't happen. You can't be in a video with me and you're naked. That won't happen. I have rules and regulations to working with people," he said.
The singer explained that his principles also extend to the type of music he records. He disclosed that he avoids songs whose lyrics or themes do not align with his beliefs.
"I can't be on a song that is not clean, to start with," Spyro stated.
The singer said these decisions are not about judging other people but about remaining consistent with the values he has chosen to live by. According to him, his faith is reflected in both his personal life and his career, and he believes it is important to stay true to those convictions even while working in the entertainment industry.
Spyro also recalled an experience involving fellow singer Shoday after they worked together on the song Sweet. He said he reached out to the younger artist after noticing the way the track was being promoted.
"When I did Sweet with Shoday, Shoday was promoting it in some funny kind of way, and I called him. I said, 'Shoday, give your life to Christ.' And he said I should continue my own while he faces his."
Despite Shoday's response, Spyro said he remains hopeful that people can embrace the Christian faith in their own time. He added that he sees his presence in the music industry as more than just making hit songs, saying he also wants his lifestyle and message to reflect his beliefs.
"Even if he's not with Christ, he's coming to Christ. Until every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. That's why I'm in this industry. It's a gradual process," he said.
Spyro's comments offer a glimpse into the standards he has chosen to uphold as his career continues to grow. While he acknowledges that the entertainment industry is filled with different perspectives and lifestyles, he insists that he has no intention of compromising his values. For the singer, every collaboration, music video and recording is expected to align with the principles he believes in, and he says those standards will continue to guide his work going forward.
