Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has publicly appealed for forgiveness following criticism that trailed her comments about the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

The singer addressed the controversy in an emotional video shared on social media, explaining that her earlier remarks were never intended to undermine the pain of affected families or suggest that Nigerians should remain silent about the growing insecurity in the country.

Her response comes after many social media users expressed disappointment over a previous video in which she encouraged prayers for the nation and urged citizens to trust that government agencies and security operatives were working towards rescuing the victims.

While some supporters agreed with her call for prayers, others argued that prayer alone was not enough and that stronger action was needed from authorities to tackle the worsening security situation.

Reacting to the criticism, Alaseyori said she was saddened to discover that some Nigerians felt offended by her message and insisted that she never intended to make anyone feel ignored or unheard.

According to the gospel singer, she had spoken about the kidnapping incident with genuine concern and had also mentioned the responsibilities of government institutions and security agencies in addressing the crisis.

“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.

The singer acknowledged the deep emotional impact the abduction has had on parents and families, noting that she understands why many Nigerians are frustrated and demanding urgent action.

She stressed that she has always stood with people in difficult situations and would never deliberately minimise their pain or suffering.

Alaseyori particularly appealed to mothers whose children may be affected by insecurity across the country, saying she understands their fears and concerns.

In an emotional plea, she asked Nigerians not to misunderstand her intentions and assured them that she genuinely cares about the welfare of the victims and their families.

“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she said.

The apology has generated fresh reactions online, with some Nigerians commending her for acknowledging the concerns raised against her comments, while others maintained that public figures must be more careful when discussing sensitive national issues.

The debate reflects the wider frustration many citizens feel over recurring cases of kidnapping and insecurity in different parts of the country.

The controversy erupted amid nationwide concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians calling for immediate intervention by security agencies and stronger measures to protect schools and communities.

As conversations continue across social media platforms, many citizens have renewed calls for improved security and quicker responses to incidents involving children and educational institutions.

For Alaseyori, the focus now appears to be on reconciliation and ensuring that her message is not interpreted as indifference to the suffering of victims.

The singer concluded her appeal by reiterating her compassion for affected families and her hope that the abducted children and teachers will return home safely.
