Nigerian disc jockey and billionaire heiress Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has shared fresh insight into her relationship experiences, revealing why she is uncertain about marrying a Nigerian partner.
Speaking during a recent podcast interview, the media personality reflected on her past romantic experiences and how they have shaped her perception of relationships and intentions.
Cuppy explained that one of her most recent relationships left her questioning whether she was genuinely liked for who she is, or whether people were more interested in her family background and wealth.
According to her, the experience made her feel that some individuals were more focused on her father, billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, than on building a real connection with her.
She said one of the major turning points in her thinking came when a former partner repeatedly showed interest in meeting her father very early in their relationship, which she found uncomfortable.
“The last one I dated was asking me when he could meet my dad. I didn’t even think they liked me,” she said.
Cuppy stated that moments like that made her reflect deeply on her romantic life, leading her to question whether people were drawn to her personality or her status.
She added that this experience contributed to her current stance, as she now feels unsure about marrying someone from Nigeria.
“I can never marry a Nigerian. It’s impossible,” she said during the interview, a statement that quickly sparked reactions online.
Despite her strong words, Cuppy also spoke about her father’s attitude toward her personal life, explaining that he is not particularly concerned about who she chooses to marry, as long as she eventually settles down and is happy.
She noted that her father’s priority is not the nationality or background of her partner but rather her overall well-being and stability in marriage.
“My dad doesn’t even care who I marry; he just wants me to get married,” she added.
The DJ also referenced her happiness for fellow Nigerian entertainer Temi Otedola and singer Mr Eazi, praising their relationship as one that appears to be built on genuine love and understanding.
According to her, seeing couples like them gives her hope that authentic relationships still exist despite her own mixed experiences.
Cuppy, who has often been open about her personal life and struggles with relationships, has in recent years become a frequent topic of discussion on social media due to her candid remarks about love, marriage, and expectations.
Her latest comments have once again sparked conversations among fans, with many debating whether her statement reflects personal frustration, general experience, or a broader commentary on modern relationships.
While she did not expand further on specific relationships or individuals, her remarks highlight ongoing conversations around dating, intention, and trust, especially for public figures whose personal lives often attract added attention and scrutiny.
For now, DJ Cuppy’s comments continue to generate mixed reactions, with supporters empathising with her experiences while others challenge her sweeping conclusion about Nigerian men.
