Comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shared a heartfelt reflection following the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, describing the emotional gathering as a strong reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of forgiveness.

The event, which took place on Wednesday night at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, brought together family members, friends, and several figures from the Nigerian entertainment industry. It served as part of the final rites for the late actor, whose passing continues to send shockwaves through Nollywood and beyond.

In a post shared on Instagram, AY Makun reflected on the atmosphere of the event, noting that the tributes shared by colleagues and loved ones carried a powerful message about life and human relationships.

According to him, the evening reinforced the idea that no one is guaranteed tomorrow and that life should be lived with more love and less resentment.

He explained that one of the strongest lessons drawn from the service of songs was the need to let go of grudges and unresolved conflicts.

AY emphasized that many of the speakers highlighted how short life can be, urging people to embrace forgiveness, cherish relationships, and show appreciation for loved ones while they are still alive.

The comedian further noted that despite the sorrow surrounding the occasion, there was comfort in seeing the large turnout and the overwhelming love shown for the late actor.

He said the presence of so many colleagues and friends reflected the impact the deceased had made during his lifetime, both professionally and personally.

Among those present at the event were prominent Nollywood personalities including Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Nancy Isime, IK Ogbonna, and Stan Nze, all of whom joined family and friends in paying tribute to the late actor.

Their presence added emotional weight to the ceremony, as colleagues shared memories and celebrated his contributions to the Nigerian film industry.

AY also revealed that the final burial ceremonies will continue in Arochukwu, Abia State, where the late actor’s family will host friends and relatives for his final journey home.

The wake and funeral arrangements are scheduled to follow in the coming days, marking the conclusion of a deeply emotional farewell.

The actor, who rose to fame after finishing as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition, went on to establish himself as a prominent figure in Nollywood

. Over the years, he featured in numerous films and television productions, building a strong fan base and earning respect within the entertainment industry.

His death on May 11, following a battle with kidney cancer, has continued to draw tributes from across Nigeria’s entertainment community. Many have described him as talented, humble, and impactful both on and off screen.

As the industry continues to mourn, AY’s reflections echo a broader sentiment shared by many attendees: that life is fleeting, relationships matter deeply, and forgiveness should never be delayed.
