Actress Uche Jombo has reacted strongly to the circulation of alleged photos and videos of the wife of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, which surfaced online shortly after his service of songs held in Lagos.
The images began trending on social media on Thursday, just a day after family members, friends, and colleagues gathered to honour the late actor at an emotional memorial event.
The sudden appearance of the alleged visuals triggered widespread reactions online, as many users debated the ethics of exposing private family matters so soon after a period of mourning.
In her reaction on X, Uche Jombo expressed clear displeasure over the development, questioning why bloggers and social media users would choose to circulate such sensitive content at a time when the family is still grieving.
She suggested that the late actor had deliberately chosen to keep his wife out of the public spotlight while he was alive, as a way of protecting her identity and preserving her privacy.
According to her post, Alexx Ekubo maintained strict boundaries around his personal life, even while being one of the most recognizable faces in Nollywood.
She pointed out that despite his popularity, he never publicly displayed his wife or openly discussed their marriage in detail, a decision that even close friends reportedly respected.
Uche further noted that the woman linked to the viral posts had attended the service of songs wearing a face mask, apparently to avoid being identified by the public.
She described the situation as unfortunate, especially given that the late actor had worked hard to shield his loved ones from unnecessary public attention.
The controversy also reignited discussions about Alexx Ekubo’s marital status, which had become a subject of speculation following his death. Many fans were unaware that the actor had been privately married, as he never publicly confirmed it during his lifetime.
This lack of public information led to confusion and debates on social media after news of his passing broke.
However, several individuals close to the actor had earlier clarified the situation. Notably, Grace Makun, wife of fashion designer Yomi Casual, had revealed that Alexx was indeed married but had chosen to keep his relationship private.
Similarly, actor Williams Uchemba also confirmed the marriage in a media interview, adding that his late friend intentionally kept his wife away from public attention.
The matter was eventually addressed by the actor’s family, who issued a formal statement confirming that Alexx Ekubo was married before his death. They explained that he preferred to keep that aspect of his life private and away from public scrutiny.
Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 11 at the age of 40. According to his family, he died following complications from metastatic kidney cancer after a private battle with the illness.
His death has continued to generate emotional tributes from colleagues across the Nigerian entertainment industry.
As the industry continues to mourn his loss, Uche Jombo’s reaction has added another layer to the ongoing conversation about privacy, respect for the dead, and the responsibilities of social media users and bloggers when handling sensitive information.
