Social media activist VeryDarkMan has led a large-scale protest in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the Orire Local Government Area of the state.
The demonstration, which drew a significant crowd of concerned residents, saw protesters march through major roads in the city before converging at the Oyo State Government House.
The group demanded immediate and decisive action from both state and federal authorities to secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
Carrying placards with different messages and chanting solidarity songs, the protesters expressed frustration over what they described as the worsening security situation in the region. Many of them insisted that the safety of citizens, especially schoolchildren, should be treated as an urgent national priority.
Speaking during the protest, VeryDarkMan criticised the response of security agencies, saying the pace of rescue operations had been too slow given the seriousness of the incident.
He questioned the effectiveness of existing security measures and called for a stronger, more coordinated effort to address the situation.
He further urged the government to deploy all available resources to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and their teachers. According to him, no effort should be considered too great when human lives are at stake, especially those of vulnerable schoolchildren.
The protest remained largely peaceful, with security operatives monitoring the procession as it moved through key parts of the city. Residents who joined the march expressed solidarity with the victims’ families, calling for improved protection in schools and rural communities across Oyo State.
Many participants also used the opportunity to highlight broader concerns about insecurity in different parts of the country, noting that similar incidents have been reported in other states. They called for long-term solutions rather than temporary responses to recurring abduction cases.
VeryDarkMan, known for his outspoken activism on social issues, has continued to use his platform to draw attention to cases involving injustice, governance failures, and public safety concerns.
His involvement in the Ibadan protest once again sparked widespread discussion online, with many Nigerians reacting to the growing pressure on authorities to respond effectively.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official update on the rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers, while efforts are believed to be ongoing by security agencies.
The protesters ended the demonstration with a call for unity, urging government officials to act swiftly and ensure that all victims are safely returned to their families without further delay.
