Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has taken a reflective look back at how her son, singer Mayorkun, came into contact with music star Davido, a connection that eventually opened a major chapter in his music journey.

She described the experience in a calm, storytelling manner, going back to how it all began without any expectations. According to her, Mayorkun had simply visited a cousin in Lekki and found himself in a music room where he decided to record a cover of one of Davido’s songs. After recording it, he shared it online without thinking much of what could follow.

She recalled the moment things started to shift when attention came from an unexpected direction.

“He posted it on the internet and before you know it, it went viral. He did a cover of the ‘Give me the money’ song and posted it on his Instagram, it went viral and got to Davido.”

At the time, the family was unsure how to interpret the message that followed from Davido. It didn’t immediately feel real to them, and there was hesitation around believing it was actually him reaching out.

“At first, they were like, ‘Is it him or not?’ But the moment they recognised his voice, they jumped in excitement.”

She explained that once Davido made direct contact and confirmed his interest, things began to move quickly. He reportedly expressed appreciation for the cover and asked for Mayorkun’s measurements, which led to him sending a box of gifts to the young artist.

“So Mayowa sent it, and before you know it, Davido gave him a whole box of gifts.”

For her, what stood out most was not just the attention but the simplicity of how everything unfolded. There was no complicated process or formal introduction at the beginning, just a series of conversations that led to an invitation.

Shortly after, Mayorkun and a close friend were invited to Davido’s residence. That visit, she said, was the first time they met properly and spent time together in person. She described Davido as warm and welcoming during the encounter, noting how respectful Mayorkun also was in return.

“When I got there, the boy was so pleasant and very respectful. ‘Mummy, Mummy,’ he kept saying.”

From that point, the relationship between both sides grew into studio sessions and musical collaboration. According to Toyin Adewale, Davido later invited them back again, which led to the recording of “Eleko.”

She explained that the process happened over two nights, and it came naturally because Mayorkun had already been writing songs and poetry before that moment.

The sessions marked a turning point in his early music steps, as he began spending more time around Davido’s circle, learning and developing his craft. Over time, he transitioned into a more independent phase, eventually building his own path in the music industry.

Looking back, Toyin Adewale’s account carries a simple tone of gratitude and reflection, focused on how a chance recording opened the door to a major professional relationship that helped shape her son’s early career direction.
