Popular Nigerian disc jockey and activist DJ Switch has launched a blistering attack on First Lady Remi Tinubu over her recent remarks encouraging struggling Nigerians to embrace small businesses such as selling akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli as a means of earning a living.

The outspoken entertainer, who has remained vocal on governance and social issues, expressed outrage over the First Lady's comments, arguing that Nigerians deserve policies that create opportunities rather than advice on how to survive worsening economic conditions.

In a strongly worded reaction shared on social media, DJ Switch did not hold back as she accused the country's leadership of failing to provide the infrastructure and environment needed for young people to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

"With absolutely no due respect Remi! Thunder fire you! While other nations are creating spaces and infrastructure to develop their people for this rapidly technologically advancing world, you want us to sell kuli kuli? And the otondo's behind you are nodding their greedy necks! I can't express how much I despise you people," she wrote.

Her comments came after the First Lady advised Nigerians, particularly women and youths, to consider starting small-scale businesses, citing the sale of everyday food items like akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli as examples of ventures that could provide an income.

DJ Switch's response has added another layer to the conversation surrounding the country's economic challenges and the increasing hardship faced by many households. For many Nigerians, soaring food prices, rising transportation costs and the high cost of living have made daily survival more difficult, leaving many expecting broader economic reforms and job-creating initiatives from the government.

The entertainer argued that instead of encouraging citizens to rely on petty trading, government officials should be focused on building systems that promote innovation, technology, entrepreneurship and sustainable employment capable of competing with global standards.

Her criticism also reflects a growing sentiment among some Nigerians who believe that while small businesses remain an important part of the economy, they should not be presented as the primary solution to deep-rooted economic problems affecting millions of people.

As of the time of filing this report, the Office of the First Lady has not publicly responded to DJ Switch's remarks.

The exchange has further fueled discussions about the direction of government policies and the expectations many Nigerians have for leadership at a time when economic hardship continues to dominate national conversations.
