Nollywood actor Stan Nze has urged Nigerians to remain actively involved in the democratic process as attention gradually shifts toward the 2027 general elections.
The actor made the appeal in a message focused on civic responsibility, voter participation, and the importance of defending one’s vote.
In recent years, voter apathy has continued to grow across the country, with many citizens expressing frustration over what they describe as a lack of meaningful change despite participating in previous elections. However, Nze believes disengagement is not the solution.
According to him, Nigerians must resist the temptation to give up on the electoral process, stressing that every vote still carries weight in shaping the country’s future.
“It’s now or never. Don’t sit on the fence,” he said. “We all know the 2027 general election is coming. I hear some people saying voting is not working, we are tired, we’ve been voting for years and nothing has changed. Don’t let them defeat you mentally.”
The actor emphasized that democracy only works when citizens actively participate, adding that apathy weakens collective power and allows poor leadership to persist without challenge.
He compared voting to other important life commitments, noting that Nigerians should give the same level of priority to elections as they do to personal or religious obligations.
“We can’t keep planning to go to church every Sunday and not plan to vote in the 2027 election,” he added. “Your vote can make a difference.”
Nze further encouraged Nigerians not only to vote but also to ensure their votes are protected and counted. He stressed that participation should not end at the ballot box, but extend to safeguarding the integrity of the process.
“This is not the time to sit on the fence. This is not the time to slack. Do everything you know how to do to make sure that your one vote counts. It’s time to vote and defend your vote,” he said.
He also called for unity among voters, especially in communities where insecurity or fear may discourage electoral participation.
According to him, citizens should look out for one another and ensure that no one is excluded from the process due to safety concerns.
“Everybody needs to come together. If you think your area is not safe enough, gather with other voters at your polling unit,” he advised.
His comments have since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians reacting to his call for greater political awareness and participation ahead of the next general election.
While some agreed with his position that voter participation remains crucial, others argued that deeper electoral reforms are needed to restore public confidence in the system.
Still, Nze’s message adds to growing calls from public figures encouraging civic engagement as political discussions around 2027 begin to gain momentum.
As Nigeria prepares for another election cycle, his remarks serve as a reminder that the strength of democracy ultimately depends on the willingness of citizens to participate, remain informed, and actively defend their collective voice at the ballot box.
