Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has come under heavy criticism online after appearing at a political solidarity rally in Abuja organised in support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The event, held under the platform of the “Re-elect Tinubu For Inclusive Nigeria” movement, brought together supporters who praised the government’s efforts in infrastructure development and security reforms, while also calling for stronger measures to address kidnapping and insecurity across parts of the country.
The rally was staged alongside a medical outreach programme that provided free consultations, medication, and basic healthcare services for residents, particularly low-income earners.
Organisers described the initiative as part of efforts to demonstrate support for the current administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Zack Orji, who serves as Deputy Director General of the movement, addressed journalists during the event, urging Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s reform agenda and allow his administration time to deliver on its promises.
However, the actor’s appearance quickly sparked widespread reactions on social media, especially after videos circulated showing him walking slowly during the rally.
The clips triggered debates about his health and also intensified criticism of celebrities participating in political events.
Many users on X expressed dissatisfaction with the involvement of entertainment figures in political advocacy, arguing that it did not reflect the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians facing inflation, rising fuel prices, and insecurity.
One user questioned the rally’s message, suggesting that claims of progress do not match the economic realities experienced by citizens.
Another commenter described the event as politically motivated publicity, accusing some entertainers of prioritising personal interests over national concerns.
Despite the backlash, other social media users defended Orji and his colleagues, stating that public figures have the right to support any political ideology of their choice without being attacked for it.
They argued that participation in democratic processes should not be interpreted as betrayal or endorsement of hardship.
The reactions highlight ongoing divisions in public opinion regarding the Tinubu administration, with supporters praising its reforms while critics continue to question its impact on everyday life.
Zack Orji has previously expressed appreciation for President Tinubu and his family, particularly following medical support he received during a serious health condition that required surgeries and further treatment abroad.
As discussions continue online, the incident underscores the growing intersection between entertainment, politics, and public sentiment in Nigeria’s digital space.
