Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) issued him an invitation letter over allegations of naira abuse during public events.

The singer made the allegation in a lengthy video shared on social media, where he expressed frustration over what he described as selective enforcement of laws relating to the spraying and handling of the Nigerian currency at parties and celebrations.

As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not publicly confirmed the existence of any invitation letter addressed to the singer, nor has the agency issued an official statement regarding Portable’s claims.

In the video, Portable alleged that he was being targeted because of his public display of money at social gatherings, while other individuals who engage in similar activities allegedly face no consequences.

Referring to recent controversies surrounding the treatment of the naira at events, the singer questioned why authorities would focus on him while, according to him, others accused of similar actions were not subjected to the same scrutiny.

“Tompolo stepped on money but because I carried bundles of money, you wrote a letter to me. You people have written a letter to problem,” he said.

The singer further claimed that ethnicity may be playing a role in how he is being treated. He alleged that Yoruba people are often singled out while others are left alone, a claim for which he provided no evidence.

“I am Yoruba boy. Igbo and Hausa will spray money at parties, you would not arrest them,” he stated.

Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, also warned that any action taken against him could trigger public protests. Throughout the video, he repeatedly described himself as a law-abiding citizen who earns his income through music and legitimate business activities.

According to him, he has built his career through performances, international appearances, and digital transactions rather than any form of criminal activity.

“I did not do fraud, I did not do anything. It is music money I am collecting,” he said.

The singer also highlighted his international travels, noting that he has performed in countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Canada.

“It is music that is paying, I am a singer by profession and that is what I am using to brag,” he added.

Portable further explained that he receives some payments through cryptocurrency platforms and maintained that all his earnings are legitimate.

“I have BTC and crypto and I use them to collect payment for shows,” he stated.

The Zazuu crooner also appealed directly to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that certain individuals were attempting to frustrate him despite his support for the current administration.

“Hello daddy Tinubu, our minds are no longer at rest. My mind is no longer at rest, they have written letter to problem,” he said.

The singer alleged that his public support for the government may be connected to the situation, though he offered no evidence to support the claim.

Portable also insisted that he is not attempting to evade authorities and remains at home with his family.

“I am not running anywhere, I am in my house, I am securing my family,” he declared.

The singer concluded his remarks by urging authorities to focus on more serious security challenges facing the country rather than targeting entertainers over allegations relating to public displays of cash.

The controversy comes amid increased enforcement efforts by the EFCC regarding the abuse of the naira, with several public figures having faced investigations and legal action in recent years over alleged violations of currency regulations.

For now, attention remains on whether the anti-graft agency will officially respond to Portable’s claims or clarify its position regarding the alleged invitation.
