Omoni Oboli, Nigerian actress and filmmaker, has announced that she will be donating all proceeds from her movie The First Lady to the family of her late friend and colleague, in a deeply emotional gesture of remembrance and respect.

The announcement was made during a solemn moment tied to the final farewell of her close friend, whom she described as someone she shared a bond with for over a decade. Oboli explained that the decision came after careful consideration and discussions with the family, stressing that the gesture was her personal way of honouring his memory and supporting those he left behind.

“Today we are finally laying the body of an amazing bestie, brother, dearest friend. And, you know, I've struggled with this for a while, but I decided to just do it anyway after speaking to the family,” she said.

According to her, the film The First Lady carries a special emotional weight, as it marked the beginning of a friendship that has lasted more than 11 years. She revealed that releasing the film at this time was intentional and symbolic, connecting both her personal memories and professional journey with the late friend.

“So in honour of his memory, I am releasing The First Lady, a movie that started this whole friendship over 11, 12 years ago. It's on Omonyi TV today. The proceeds will go to the family; I mean the entire proceeds will go to the family. So please watch, re-watch, forward to everybody you know to watch,” she added.

Oboli further appealed to fans and supporters to engage with the film as a way of extending support to the bereaved family. She noted that the project was not only a creative work but also a channel of giving back and expressing gratitude for the relationship she shared with her late friend.

“This is just another way for me to pay my respects to him and those he's left behind. Love you all so much, besties. You are forever in our hearts, bestie. Love you forever,” she said.

The filmmaker’s announcement has drawn attention within the Nollywood community, with many acknowledging the emotional weight behind her decision. For Oboli, the move stands as both a tribute and a commitment, turning a creative project into a lasting gesture of remembrance.
