Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has shared her candid views on the role of financial stability in relationships, insisting that while love is important, it may not be enough to sustain a peaceful and joyful marriage.

The actress made this known during a recent appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where she discussed how money issues can place emotional strain on couples and affect overall family wellbeing.

According to her, many people underestimate how much financial pressure can influence daily life in marriage, especially when basic responsibilities become difficult to meet. She explained that situations such as unpaid rent, inability to cater for school fees, and lack of food at home can quickly turn a loving relationship into a stressful experience.

Isime noted that while love can exist in a relationship without wealth, emotional satisfaction and comfort are not always guaranteed when financial challenges persist.

She said she does not agree with the popular belief that marrying someone who is financially struggling automatically leads to happiness or fulfillment for a woman.

“Marriage is not a poverty alleviation scheme but I don’t believe marrying a poor man can make you happy. When rent is due, school fees can’t be paid and there is no food in the house, it is difficult to have a fantastic life. I am not saying there is no love without money. But love and fantastic life are not the same,” she said.

The actress further explained that financial readiness plays a key role in building a stable home, advising intending couples to ensure they have some level of financial security before committing to marriage or starting a family.

She stressed that marriage comes with responsibilities that require planning, discipline, and the ability to meet basic needs, adding that love alone may not be sufficient when real-life pressures set in.

Her comments have since sparked conversations online, with many agreeing that financial stability is an important factor in sustaining long-term relationships, while others argued that mutual growth and support can also help couples overcome financial hardship.

Isime, however, maintained that her position is not about discouraging love between individuals of different financial backgrounds, but rather about encouraging realistic expectations before entering marriage.

She concluded that couples should approach marriage with both emotional commitment and practical readiness, so that financial stress does not overshadow the bond they share.
