Nigerian digital creator Jarvis has reacted publicly to comments made by rapper Ycee after he referenced her partner, Peller, while speaking about what he described as changing social values and declining emphasis on education in Nigeria.

The exchange followed Ycee’s appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, where the rapper discussed concerns about internet culture, entertainment trends and the growing influence of online personalities.

During the conversation, Ycee argued that society was increasingly rewarding behaviour centred on attention and viral engagement rather than knowledge, education and intellectual growth.

While making his point, he referred to popular online personalities and mentioned what he described as the rise of a “Peller culture.”

According to him, society appeared to be becoming more accepting of content that prioritises entertainment and controversy over educational values.

“We now have an Olodo uprising, and it is terrible. It is like we are trying to accommodate unintelligent and ignorant people because we do not want them to feel bad, so now they are becoming the majority.

“There is a massive attack on the educational system in Nigeria. Now, it is not just the Yahoo culture alone; we also have the Peller culture. If we keep rewarding these guys, people will start to believe all they need to do is say or do something dumb, outrageous, or obscene online to get the clicks and numbers. No shade to Peller, though, because I have nothing against him personally,” he said.

The comments quickly generated reactions online, with many social media users debating whether digital content creation discourages educational ambition or simply reflects changing opportunities in the modern economy.

Reacting in a video shared online, Jarvis rejected Ycee’s position and defended content creators who use digital platforms to build careers.

According to her, the growth of content creation should be viewed within the wider realities of unemployment and economic challenges affecting young Nigerians.

She argued that many people turn to online platforms not because they reject education but because they are searching for alternative opportunities.

“Government didn’t provide jobs for us, what exactly did you expect people to do?” she said.

Jarvis also challenged the assumption that individuals involved in entertainment and online content lack education or intellectual ability.

Using her own experience as an example, she stated that being educated and choosing digital content creation are not mutually exclusive.

“I’m a graduate. Go and tell that to your president because you can’t expect individuals with high intelligence to end up cleaning toilets.”

Addressing Ycee’s direct reference to her partner, she questioned why Peller’s name had become part of the broader criticism.

“You even mention my man as ‘Peller culture’. Everybody has their culture, so please don’t bring that thing here,” she said.

Jarvis further argued that creating entertaining content should not automatically lead people to conclude that creators are uninterested in academics or personal development.

According to her, social media content often represents a source of livelihood rather than a rejection of formal education.

“Just because we’re acting funny and trying to earn a living, you’re telling us that we don’t want to have education? So what about me, who graduated from University?” she asked.

The exchange has since continued to generate conversation online, with opinions divided between those who agree with concerns about internet culture and others who believe digital entertainment has become a legitimate path for economic survival and creative expression.

As of the time of this report, Ycee had not publicly responded to Jarvis’ reaction.
