Afrobeats artiste and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has strongly criticised the Federal Government over the worsening security situation and economic hardship in Nigeria, calling for immediate action and greater accountability from leaders.
Falz made the comments on Friday while speaking to protesters in Lagos during a June 12 demonstration organised by a coalition of civil society organisations, labour unions, youth groups, and other advocacy movements to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
Addressing the crowd, the rapper expressed deep concern over the increasing wave of kidnappings, killings, and violent attacks across different parts of the country, describing the situation as a reflection of leadership failure and poor protection of citizens.
According to him, Nigerians are increasingly living in fear as insecurity spreads across both urban and rural communities, with little reassurance from those in authority.
“Apart from the insane corruption and gross mismanagement of our resources, I think everybody can see the worsening insecurity. It’s unbearable now,” he said.
Falz further highlighted recent cases of abductions reported in different states, including the kidnapping of students and a relative of a former minister in Oyo State, stressing that every Nigerian life deserves equal protection regardless of social status or background.
He condemned what he described as a lack of urgency from government officials, insisting that the value of human life should not depend on wealth, influence, or political connections.
“They don’t care about us. They don’t care about ordinary people. But it must be known that no Nigerian life is more important than the other. Every single Nigerian life matters. And every single person must be cared for and protected at all costs,” he stated.
The activist also called for urgent and practical measures to curb kidnappings and violent crimes, warning that continued attacks on schools and communities could further erode public trust in governance and education systems.
He noted that despite repeated incidents involving schoolchildren, learning institutions remain vulnerable, a situation he described as unacceptable in a country with functioning security agencies.
When asked about the political outlook and the chances of the ruling party in future elections, Falz declined to make direct predictions but acknowledged widespread dissatisfaction among citizens over current governance.
He added that leaders have had sufficient time to address the country’s challenges but have failed to demonstrate adequate commitment to solving them.
The June 12 protest, held in parts of Lagos and other cities, was organised as part of nationwide demonstrations focusing on insecurity, economic hardship, and declining living standards.
Falz, who also signed the coalition’s statement alongside human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and other activists, reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, saying Nigerians would ultimately express their will through the ballot box and peaceful civic engagement.
