Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has announced that he plans to take a temporary break from music after completing his ongoing tour, as he shifts focus toward spending more time with his family.
The Shape of You hitmaker made the revelation during the opening night of his “LOOP” tour in Glendale, Arizona, where he spoke directly to fans about his future plans and the possibility of stepping away from the spotlight for a while once the tour concludes.
According to Sheeran, the decision is driven by his desire to embrace fatherhood more fully and dedicate quality time to his wife and children. The singer, who has been on a global touring schedule for several years, hinted that this upcoming break may last for an unspecified period.
“This is gonna be my last time here in a while. I might take some time off once this tour has ended and sort of do the dad thing,” he told the audience during the concert, drawing emotional reactions from fans in attendance.
He further expressed gratitude to his supporters for their continuous love and loyalty throughout his career, adding a heartfelt message of appreciation as he prepares for time away from performing.
“So, if I don’t see you for a while, I love you, thank you for coming,” Sheeran added.
The British star shares two daughters, Lyra, aged five, and Jupiter, aged four, with his wife Cherry Seaborn. The couple, who have known each other since childhood, reconnected years later in 2015 before eventually getting married in 2019. Since then, Sheeran has often spoken about how fatherhood has changed his outlook on life and influenced his music.
This is not the first time the globally acclaimed artist has taken a break from his career. In 2015, he stepped away from the music scene for a year to travel and focus on personal growth. He also took another hiatus between 2019 and 2021 following the completion of his Divide tour, one of the most successful tours in music history.
Over the years, Sheeran has built a reputation as one of the world’s most influential and commercially successful musicians. He began writing songs at a young age and released his early independent project, No. 5 Collaborations Project, in 2011. His breakthrough came shortly after, leading to international fame and multiple award wins, including several Grammy Awards.
His catalogue of hits, including Thinking Out Loud, Perfect, Photograph, and Shape of You, has earned him billions of streams worldwide and cemented his place among the best-selling artists of his generation.
Despite his global success, Sheeran has often spoken about the importance of maintaining a balance between fame and family life. His latest announcement reinforces that sentiment, as he prepares to step back temporarily to focus on his personal responsibilities as a husband and father.
Fans across the world have since reacted to the news with mixed emotions—expressing sadness over his impending break but also support for his decision to prioritise family.
While Sheeran did not specify how long the break would last, he reassured fans that it was not a permanent retirement, but rather a pause to reset and spend meaningful time with his loved ones.
For now, the “LOOP” tour continues, with Sheeran expected to complete his scheduled performances before stepping away from the stage.
