Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has addressed recent comments surrounding her decision to contest for the governorship of Abia State, making it clear that the move was entirely her own and not the result of anyone else's influence.
Her response came after activist VeryDarkMan questioned her political ambition and suggested that former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore had positioned her as an alternative to the current Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. However, Ogala has firmly rejected that claim, insisting that the narrative does not reflect what actually happened.
According to the actress, she independently decided to pursue the governorship seat and was never encouraged or directed by Sowore to take that path. She explained that when she obtained the African Action Congress (AAC) nomination form, Sowore was not even aware of her decision.
Ogala disclosed that the politician only became aware of her ambition much later during one of the party's vetting sessions. She maintained that the idea that she was being used to serve another person's political interest is completely false
Emphasizing her independence, Ogala said she is fully capable of making decisions for herself and is not someone who can be controlled or manipulated. She stressed that her political aspirations are driven by her personal convictions rather than the influence of any political figure.
While responding to the controversy, the actress also took time to acknowledge the support VeryDarkMan has shown her over the years. She expressed appreciation for his past kindness and said she does not take it for granted, despite the current disagreement over her political ambitions.
Rather than fueling further tension, Ogala appealed for calm and understanding. She said she prefers peace over unnecessary conflict and believes that disagreements should not overshadow the bigger issues affecting the country.
She also called on both VeryDarkMan and Sowore to put aside their differences and focus on working toward a common goal. According to her, Nigerians would benefit more if influential voices united in the struggle against the country's longstanding political challenges instead of engaging in personal disputes.
Ogala noted that the nation's problems require collective effort and urged both men to direct their energy toward promoting meaningful change rather than exchanging accusations.
Concluding her remarks, the actress made it clear that she harbors no resentment toward either VeryDarkMan or Sowore. She said she values both individuals and wishes them well, expressing hope that the misunderstanding can be resolved peacefully.
Her statement serves as a clarification of her political position while also delivering a message of unity, urging those involved to focus on the broader objective of improving Nigeria's political landscape instead of allowing personal disagreements to create further division.
In her words;
“I deeply respect your strength, but I choose to distance myself from this misunderstanding. You have come through for me in the past, and I do not take that for granted. However, I choose peace over chaos.
My decision to run for governor is entirely my own, and I am not someone anyone can dictate to.
Omoyele Sowore was never aware I had obtained an African Action Congress (AAC) nomination form until a particular vetting class session. Since I declared my interest to run, I have neither spoken to nor seen Sowore until the day I saw him in court.
I want to plead with you all to sheathe your swords, come together, and join forces so we can retire those oppressors who have intentionally hijacked our system. I love you both. God bless you.”
