Nigerian socialite and crossdresser, Bobrisky, has expressed strong criticism over the outfits worn by some celebrities who attended the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.
The emotional event, which brought together several figures from the entertainment industry, was meant to celebrate and reflect on the life of the late actor.
However, discussions have since shifted online after Bobrisky shared his opinion about the appearance of some female guests at the ceremony.
Taking to social commentary, Bobrisky questioned the choice of clothing worn by certain attendees, stating that the outfits did not reflect the solemn nature of the occasion. He argued that a service of songs should be treated as a respectful and mourning-oriented gathering, rather than an event for fashion display.
According to him, some of the dresses, heavy makeup styles, and overall presentation of a few guests appeared more suitable for a party setting than a funeral-related event.
He specifically expressed concern about outfits that exposed cleavage, thighs, and other parts of the body, insisting that such styles were inappropriate for a memorial atmosphere.
Bobrisky did not hold back in his reaction, stating that respect for the deceased and the grieving family should have been the priority.
He added that appearances at such events should reflect sensitivity, modesty, and understanding of the emotional weight of the occasion.
His comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with users divided over his stance. While some agreed that mourners should dress more conservatively for such events, others argued that fashion choices are personal and should not be policed, even at solemn gatherings.
The service of songs for Alexx Ekubo, which was held at Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, marked the beginning of the funeral rites for the actor, who passed away on May 11 at the age of 40 after a brief battle with illness.
The event was attended by several Nollywood stars and entertainers, many of whom wore white in line with the family’s dress code.
Despite the criticism that followed, many guests were seen paying emotional tributes and sharing memories of their time with the late actor.
Bobrisky’s remarks have added another layer of debate to an already emotional period for fans and colleagues mourning the loss of Alexx Ekubo, as discussions continue both online and offline about respect, fashion, and cultural expectations at memorial events.
