Days after a protest held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, social media activist VeryDarkMan has spoken out about the incident, which was organised to demand urgent action over rising insecurity and the reported kidnapping of school students and teachers in the state.
The demonstration, which took place earlier in the week, focused on growing concerns over security challenges and increasing cases of abduction. Organisers of the protest said the aim was to pressure authorities to respond more effectively to the situation and provide safety for affected communities.
In a statement released days after the event, VeryDarkMan gave his account of what happened during the protest, alleging that the demonstration was disrupted by individuals he described as thugs.
“We were attacked by armed thugs who shot at us and threw bottles and other objects,” he said.
He explained that the situation escalated quickly, forcing participants to find safety and take measures they considered necessary to protect themselves during the incident.
“In Oyo State, thugs were allegedly sent after us. We had to quickly take cover in the nearest shop and buy some things for means of protection to defend ourselves,” he stated.
VeryDarkMan stressed that the protest was not driven by political interests or affiliations, but rather by concerns over insecurity and the welfare of victims who had been reportedly kidnapped.
“We are not political tools or agents of any party; we are simply demanding good governance, improved security for citizens, and the release of kidnapped victims in Oyo State,” he said.
He also issued a strong warning in his post-protest remarks, cautioning against any attempt to disrupt future demonstrations.
“ANY THUG SENT TO OBSTRUCT OUR PROTEST AFTER THE IBADAN INCIDENT, WE WILL KPAI HIM. If we go to any state to protest peacefully and we are again attacked or obstructed in the way that happened in Ibadan, we will be forced to defend ourselves in an unfriendly manner. WE GO KPAI YOU.”
He further added a final caution, stating:
“I’m advising you, do not let this occur again, else…”
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Oyo State have not issued any detailed public response to the allegations raised.
