Fresh concerns have been raised by the family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo over the circumstances surrounding his death and burial, with relatives alleging they were left out of important decisions and denied key information during the process.
The concerns became public through a statement released on Thursday by David Ekubo, who said he was speaking on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, family members believe there are unanswered questions regarding the actor’s final days and have called for greater clarity about the events that led to his passing.
Alexx Ekubo reportedly died on May 11 at the age of 40 after battling stage 4 kidney cancer. His burial took place last week at his grandfather’s compound in Abia State.
Before the burial, family, friends and colleagues had gathered for a service of songs held on June 10, followed by a wake ceremony attended by people from different parts of the entertainment industry and beyond.
However, despite those public ceremonies, the family has now alleged that some of the processes leading up to the burial did not involve immediate relatives in the way they expected.
In the statement, David Ekubo claimed that family members responsible for receiving the actor’s remains from the mortuary were allegedly prevented from viewing the body.
He further stated that immediate relatives, including the actor’s mother and his only sibling, had not received sufficient information regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Expressing disappointment and grief, the statement suggested that several aspects of the process remain unclear to the family.
“With grave pain, heaviness and sorrow, the family of Ikenna Alex Ekubo advises the public that the events leading up to his passing have been unclear,” the statement said.
The family also claimed they were not informed immediately after the actor’s death.
According to the statement, relatives believed they should have been more directly involved in decisions and communication connected to funeral arrangements and other developments.
The statement further addressed aspects of the burial ceremony itself.
According to the family, they did not approve the use of white attire during activities described as a celebration of life event, arguing that the decision did not reflect their preference given the circumstances of the actor’s passing.
The family maintained that they are still seeking explanations and clarity.
“The Ekubo family are yet to receive answers on how and why Alex passed away suddenly,” the statement added.
Another concern raised in the release was the claim that the actor’s biological mother and only sibling had not been formally briefed regarding the events surrounding his death.
The family described the situation as distressing and called attention to what they believe are unresolved issues.
The development has generated reactions online, with some supporters expressing sympathy for the family while others called for patience until additional details become available.
As of the time this report was prepared, neither the actor’s management team nor any officially recognised representative had publicly responded to the allegations made in the statement.
The claims remain allegations from family representatives and have not been independently verified.
