Bolaji Ogunmola’s cinematic project Ajosepo 2: The Gathering has achieved a major milestone at the Nigerian box office after grossing over ₦100 million, making it one of the standout Nollywood films of 2026.
The announcement was made by distribution company FilmOne, which celebrated the achievement on social media while appreciating movie lovers across West Africa for their strong turnout in cinemas.
The company described the film’s performance as impressive, noting that audience support has continued to drive its commercial success since its release.
According to FilmOne, Ajosepo 2: The Gathering has now officially earned ₦101.4 million, placing it among the top-performing Nollywood titles of the year.
With this feat, the film becomes the seventh Nigerian movie in 2026 to cross the ₦100 million benchmark, a significant indicator of the industry’s growing box office strength.
The film joins other successful Nollywood productions such as Love and New Notes, Call of My Life, Onobiren, Mothers Love, Efunroye, and The Return of Arinzo, all of which have also surpassed the ₦100 million mark this year. Industry analysts say this trend reflects increasing audience confidence in locally produced films and a steady rise in cinema attendance.
Ajosepo 2: The Gathering opened strongly at the box office, recording ₦49.1 million in its debut weekend alone.
This strong opening positioned it as one of the most successful releases of its launch period and set the pace for its continued commercial performance.
The film serves as a continuation of the original Ajosepo, which premiered in 2024 and explored the emotional tension and hidden secrets surrounding a family wedding.
The sequel expands on that storyline, revisiting the themes of family conflict, relationships and unresolved issues that resurface during another elaborate ceremony.
The production brings together a star-studded cast featuring well-known Nollywood actors, including Timini Egbuson, Mike Afolarin, Toyin Abraham, Mercy Aigbe, Tomike Adeoye and Odunlade Adekola. The film is directed by filmmaker Kayode Kasum, who is known for his work on several successful Nigerian productions.
Industry observers have attributed the film’s success to its relatable storyline, strong ensemble cast and effective marketing strategy.
The combination of comedy, drama and emotional storytelling has also been credited for attracting a wide audience base across different age groups.
As Ajosepo 2: The Gathering continues its cinema run nationwide, expectations remain high that it could further increase its earnings in the coming weeks, strengthening its position as one of Nollywood’s biggest box office successes of the year.
