Nafisat, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Akin Olaiya, has publicly accused the actor of domestic violence while addressing reports surrounding the breakdown of their marriage.
Her reaction came in a video that surfaced online on Wednesday, where she spoke about the circumstances that led to their separation and responded to narratives circulating on social media.
Earlier in the week, a statement attributed to Olaiya made rounds online announcing that the marriage had ended. In the statement, the actor reportedly claimed that Nafisat left their matrimonial home without informing him and suggested that efforts to reconcile the relationship had not yielded results.
Responding to those claims, Nafisat rejected suggestions that she abandoned the marriage without reason, saying her decision to leave was influenced by experiences she described as painful and emotionally difficult.
According to her, she left the marriage only a few months after their wedding because she no longer felt valued and could not continue in an environment she alleged involved violence.
Speaking in the video, she explained that she had remained silent for a long time but felt compelled to address public conversations surrounding the separation.
“Last few months, I left my marriage because I’m in pain, I’m mistreated. I feel like I did not matter. And nobody is going to stay in a marital home that goes with violence.
“All the things that they’re talking on social media about the divorce letter, yeah for real, me and my husband are not together anymore for like a long time ago, since last year.
“For those of you saying how can the wife just pack and leave when she’s not mad? Which? When there’s violence and something is really going on that you don’t really know about, and I’m expecting a lot from my ex-husband when I was with him because he’s older than me.
“The age gap is much. Yet everything was going down, and I can never come out to disclose the main issues in my marriage with him. That is what I can never do on social media.
“But what I’m trying to let you know is that it does not make sense for him to say she just packed her things and left without any issues. It can’t be possible. You guys should just think about it and see if it makes sense.”
Nafisat, however, did not provide specific details of the alleged abuse in the video and stated that she had no intention of revealing all that happened during the marriage on social media.
The couple’s relationship had previously drawn attention online during their wedding ceremony in July 2025. Clips from the event sparked reactions from social media users, with some commenting on Nafisat’s facial expressions and reserved appearance while Olaiya appeared visibly excited and danced during parts of the celebration.
At the time, online discussions around the ceremony remained speculative, with no public indication from either party that the marriage was experiencing challenges.
The marriage has now reportedly ended less than five months after the wedding.
The latest allegations have also renewed attention on reports surrounding Olaiya’s previous marriage, which ended years earlier amid accusations of violence and infidelity.
As of the time of this report, Olaiya had not publicly responded to Nafisat’s latest allegations of domestic violence.
