Veteran Nollywood actor and former lawmaker Bob-Manuel Udokwu has shared the reason he chose to maintain a low profile on social media over the years, explaining that his decision was influenced by the nature of online conversations and the direction digital spaces in Nigeria have taken.

In a recent post on Instagram, the respected actor reflected on his long-standing silence on social media, noting that he deliberately stayed away from constant engagement because he often found online discussions disconnected from the everyday realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.

According to him, many of the issues that gain traction online tend to have little direct impact on people’s struggles, yet they attract massive attention, consume data, and dominate public conversation for extended periods.

He described social media in Nigeria as a space that has gradually shifted away from meaningful dialogue into a mix of distractions, trends, and controversies.

While acknowledging the power of digital platforms to connect people and share information, he expressed concern that much of what goes viral does not always reflect the most important national conversations.

Instead, he suggested that entertainment-driven topics and online arguments often overshadow more pressing social and economic issues.

The actor also pointed out the increasing culture of trolling and public dragging, which he said has made online spaces more toxic and discouraging for many public figures.

He noted that this environment played a key role in his decision to step back and observe from a distance rather than actively participate in daily online exchanges.

For him, maintaining peace of mind and focusing on his personal and professional life was more valuable than engaging in unnecessary online conflicts.

Despite his reservations, he admitted that he has been encouraged repeatedly by fans who want to see more of him on social media.

He revealed that their persistent requests have influenced his decision to become more active moving forward.

However, he made it clear that his return will be on his own terms, with a focus on controlled engagement rather than constant participation in trending debates or controversies.

His statement, which ended with a light-hearted question to his followers, suggested a willingness to reconnect with his audience in a more balanced way.

It reflects a shift from complete withdrawal to selective participation, where he can still share moments with fans without being drawn into the negative aspects of online culture.

The development has drawn attention across entertainment circles, especially among fans who have long admired his work in Nollywood and his contributions to public service.

Many see his perspective as a reflection of a broader concern shared by several public figures who are increasingly cautious about how they navigate social media spaces.
