Nigerian singer Spyro has reacted to recent kidnapping incidents in the country, expressing deep concern over the reported beheading of a teacher in Ogbomoso and the abduction of schoolchildren, which he said had left him emotionally shaken.
The singer, known for frequently sharing his thoughts on social issues, questioned the silence of influential religious leaders and celebrities amid growing public fear over insecurity and kidnapping cases. According to him, voices with large followings should not remain quiet at a time many Nigerians are worried about safety and the fate of abducted victims.
Spyro said he found it disturbing that incidents involving children and innocent citizens could happen without strong public reactions from respected figures across religious and entertainment circles. He mentioned several popular clerics, asking why they had not publicly addressed the situation despite their influence on millions of followers.
The music star also noted that the atmosphere created by the reports had affected him personally, revealing that he could not bring himself to attend church on Sunday because of how unsettled he felt over the developments.
Reacting to the situation, Spyro said, “Someone was beh£d£d on camera, school children were taken away and we don't even know where they are, yet our spiritual leaders are silent.”
He further questioned the absence of comments from top religious figures, saying, “Where is Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Oyedepo, Pastor Kumuyi, Pastor Bolaji, Jerry Eze, etc who have great influence. Why are they not saying anything?”.
The singer also wondered why prominent Muslim clerics and celebrities had remained quiet despite the growing anxiety among members of the public. According to him, the silence from influential voices gives the impression that people no longer care about one another in difficult moments.
“I couldn't even go to church on Sunday. Where are the big alfas and sheikhs? Why are the celebrities silent? We don't care about each other. It can't be business as usual,” he added.
Spyro’s comments have added to ongoing public concerns over insecurity and kidnapping incidents in different parts of the country, especially cases involving schoolchildren. Many Nigerians continue to call for stronger responses from authorities and greater support for affected families.
The singer’s reaction reflects the fear and frustration being felt by many citizens who believe influential figures should use their platforms to speak on issues affecting public safety and national well-being.
