Veteran Nollywood actor Roy De Nani has opened up about the painful personal experiences that have shaped his life, revealing how financial hardship and lack of support within the industry contributed to devastating family losses.
In a recent appearance on the Where Is The Lie Podcast, the actor gave an emotional account of how poverty severely affected his ability to care for his children during a medical emergency.
According to him, the situation became tragic when he was unable to afford urgent medical treatment, including blood transfusions that could have saved their lives.
He explained that both his son and daughter passed away due to the inability to access timely medical care, a loss he still struggles to come to terms with.
The actor described the experience as one of the darkest moments of his life, saying financial limitations left him helpless at a critical time.
Beyond the loss of his children, Roy De Nani also spoke about the death of another close family member, a brother from the same father. He expressed disappointment that during these difficult periods, he received little to no support from colleagues in the Nollywood industry, a community he had contributed to in his earlier years.
The veteran actor noted that despite his long-standing involvement in the film industry, including acting and scriptwriting, he felt abandoned when he needed emotional and moral support the most.
He said not a single colleague showed up during his brother’s passing, a situation that deeply affected him.
When asked if he ever received assistance from fellow actors during his hardships, he responded that there was no outreach or intervention. According to him, the experience revealed the lack of strong solidarity within the industry during moments of personal crisis.
Despite everything he has been through, Roy De Nani said he has continued to remain active in Nollywood. He still writes scripts and occasionally takes on acting roles, even though the journey has been challenging.
The actor added that he is not comfortable publicly seeking financial help. Instead, he expressed a desire for a fresh opportunity to rebuild his career and regain stability in his life. He described himself as a private person who believes everyone has personal struggles, but emphasized his hope of being re-established professionally.
Roy De Nani is regarded as one of the early contributors to Nollywood’s growth during its formative years. His recent revelations have sparked conversations about welfare, support systems, and the treatment of veteran actors in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
