Nollywood actress Judy Austin has voiced concern over what she describes as a disturbing trend of people celebrating and profiting from the downfall of families and relationships on social media.
The actress shared her thoughts in a lengthy Instagram post where she criticised the growing obsession with online attention, money, and controversy at the expense of compassion, respect, and family values.
According to Judy Austin, many people have become so consumed by the desire for engagement and financial gain online that they no longer care about the emotional damage caused by their actions or comments.
She argued that society appears to be shifting away from the values that once placed family, unity, and mutual respect above material success and internet popularity.
“Most people have lost sight of what is important in life; everybody wants to make money at all costs! Regardless of the consequences!” she wrote.
The actress further lamented that many individuals now place greater importance on material possessions and online traffic than preserving relationships or protecting families from public embarrassment.
“Material things mean everything to most people now. Family used to mean everything, but now, people give that up just for traffic on their pages!” she stated.
Judy Austin also alleged that some social media users intentionally hope for marriages and families to collapse because such situations generate discussions, reactions, and financial benefits online.
“Some people pray for families to break up so they can profit from it,” she added.
Her comments have sparked conversations online, with supporters agreeing that social media has created an unhealthy culture where scandals, relationship drama, and personal crises are often turned into entertainment.
Others, however, argued that public figures sometimes contribute to online controversies themselves, making it difficult to separate criticism from genuine concern.
The actress also used the opportunity to address what she described as the increasing level of disrespect and loss of boundaries on social media platforms.
According to her, the internet has made many people feel entitled to speak recklessly about others without empathy or accountability.
“Most people are humans without humanity. People are so disrespectful, and they call it being woke. Social media made all of us age mates,” she wrote.
Judy Austin’s remarks come amid continued public scrutiny surrounding celebrity relationships and family matters, especially within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where personal issues often become major topics of online discussion.
