Veteran Nollywood actress Jaiye Kuti has paid a touching tribute to her late colleague and close friend Henrietta Kosoko during the premiere of her latest film Jaiyeola Monje (The Anniversary), held in Ikeja, Lagos.
The emotional moment took place on Wednesday at a star-studded event that brought together major figures in the Yoruba film industry.
As part of the ceremony, Jaiye Kuti presented a special Award of Honour in memory of Henrietta Kosoko, recognising her contribution to Nollywood and her lasting impact on the industry.
The award was formally presented by actor Antar Laniyan, who handed it over to Temilade and Sola Kosoko, children of the late actress, on behalf of the Kosoko family.
The gesture was met with emotional appreciation from those in attendance, as many reflected on Henrietta’s legacy and influence in Yoruba cinema.
Speaking during the presentation, Antar Laniyan offered prayers for the repose of Henrietta’s soul and expressed gratitude for her contributions to the film industry.
He noted that the honour was a way of keeping her memory alive while celebrating her achievements as an actress.
In response, Temilade Kosoko spoke on behalf of the family, thanking Jaiye Kuti for the recognition and remembering her late mother with pride.
She also revealed that the family is currently working on several projects aimed at preserving Henrietta Kosoko’s legacy, especially as the 10th anniversary of her passing approaches.
Henrietta Kosoko, who passed away on June 6, 2016, was a respected figure in Yoruba Nollywood films. She was married to veteran actor Jide Kosoko and was known for her powerful performances and strong screen presence before her death after collapsing at her Lagos residence.
The event also served as the premiere of Jaiye Kuti’s new movie, which features a strong cast including Antar Laniyan, Bimbo Oshin, Fathia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Pasuma, Itele d Icon, and Yinka Quadri. The film explores a deep emotional storyline centered on love, destiny, and spiritual connections that blur the boundaries between life and death.
According to its synopsis, Jaiyeola Monje (The Anniversary) follows the journey of two lovers bound by a mysterious pact that shapes their fate in unexpected ways.
The film is scheduled for nationwide cinema release on May 22 and is already generating interest within the entertainment industry.
The tribute to Henrietta Kosoko added a heartfelt layer to the premiere, turning the event into both a celebration of cinema and a remembrance of one of Nollywood’s cherished stars.
