Nollywood actress Sandra Okunzuwa has opened up about how performing romantic scenes in movies once had a serious impact on her personal relationship, eventually leading to its end.
The actress made the revelation during an interview on the BTS Reality Show, where she discussed common misconceptions people have about intimate scenes in the film industry.
According to her, many viewers assume that actors enjoy kissing or romantic moments on screen, but the reality is far different.
Okunzuwa explained that movie sets are usually crowded environments filled with cameras, crew members, and production staff, making it impossible for actors to feel any real emotional connection during such scenes.
“If you have twenty people watching you while kissing in the movie, it is impossible to enjoy it,” she said. She added that actors are often more focused on getting the shot right than anything else. “It is impossible to get in the mood,” she further stated.
The actress also expressed her personal opinion that kissing scenes are often unnecessary in films. According to her, if audiences could still enjoy movies without them, she would fully support their removal. She noted that beyond the professional discomfort, such scenes can also create misunderstandings in real-life relationships.
Sharing a personal experience, Okunzuwa revealed that a past relationship ended partly because of her role in a movie kissing scene. She explained that her former boyfriend was uncomfortable after seeing a clip of her kissing another actor on screen, which eventually caused tension between them.
“These things affect our personal relationships. For instance, I had to leave a relationship because of this,” she said.
She further admitted that dating within the entertainment industry can be challenging, especially for actresses who frequently perform romantic roles on screen.
According to her, she understands why some people may choose not to date actors due to the emotional and psychological pressure that often comes with the job.
“It is hard; it is not easy. I do not blame people who say they cannot date actresses because it is not everyone who can take certain things,” she added.
Okunzuwa’s comments highlight the emotional complexity that can come with balancing a public acting career and private relationships.
While audiences often see only the final product on screen, she emphasized that the reality behind the scenes is purely professional and far less glamorous than many imagine.
Her revelation has sparked conversations about boundaries, trust, and understanding in relationships involving people in the entertainment industry, especially actors who regularly take on intimate roles as part of storytelling.
