Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has triggered widespread reactions online after making a controversial statement linking supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rising insecurity in Nigeria.
The actress made the remark in a post shared on her Instagram story, where she expressed frustration over the growing wave of kidnappings, killings, and violent attacks in different parts of the country.
In the post, Jegede directly addressed supporters of the president, urging them to reflect on their conscience amid the worsening security situation.
“Every supporter of Tinubu is a kidnapper, killer, beheader, and corrupt individual. Deal with your conscience,” she wrote.
Her statement immediately generated heated debate across social media platforms, with users divided over both the tone and content of her message.
While some users supported her outburst as an emotional reaction to the current insecurity challenges, others criticised her for generalising and using inflammatory language against a large group of political supporters.
The actress’ comments come at a time of renewed public concern over insecurity in several parts of Nigeria, including recent reports of killings and abductions in Oyo State and other regions.
In one of the most widely reported incidents, a school teacher was killed in Oyo State, while several pupils were reportedly abducted, sparking outrage and renewed calls for improved security measures.
The developments have fueled frustration among citizens, many of whom have taken to social media to demand stronger government intervention and accountability from security agencies.
Jegede had earlier expressed sadness over the situation in Oyo State, lamenting what she described as the silence and lack of collective urgency in responding to the crisis.
Her reaction also came shortly after the celebration of Children’s Day on May 27, which was overshadowed by reports of the abduction of about 46 children in parts of the state.
The contrast between the celebratory occasion and the reports of violence further intensified public emotions, with many Nigerians expressing grief and anger over the state of security in the country.
Yvonne Jegede, known for her outspoken nature on social and political issues, has often used her platform to comment on governance, leadership, and societal challenges.
However, her latest remarks have drawn particularly strong reactions due to the direct nature of the accusation and the sensitive political climate surrounding discussions on insecurity.
Some supporters argue that celebrities have a right to express their frustrations, especially when speaking about issues affecting ordinary citizens, while others believe public figures should be more measured in their language to avoid escalating tensions.
As of the time of filing this report, Jegede has not issued any further clarification or apology regarding her statement.
The incident adds to ongoing conversations about insecurity in Nigeria and the role of public figures in shaping political discourse, especially at a time when citizens continue to demand urgent solutions to rising violence and instability across different regions of the country.
