Nigerian singer CKay has opened up about one of the most defining moments of his life leaving home at the age of 19 to chase his music dreams despite strong opposition from his parents. 

The artiste, known for his global hit Love Nwantiti, revealed that his decision was not made lightly but came after years of internal struggle and growing conviction about his path.

Speaking during an interview, CKay explained that his passion for music started early, driven more by the joy it brought him than the promise of fame or success. 

However, like many young creatives, he faced resistance from his family, who were initially unwilling to support his ambitions. This left him torn between respecting his parents’ wishes and pursuing what he believed was his true calling.

According to the singer, there was a period when he considered abandoning music as a full-time pursuit in order to maintain peace at home. 

But as he continued to practice, improve his craft, and gain confidence in his abilities, it became increasingly clear that music was more than just a hobby it was his future.

That realization eventually pushed him to make a bold and life-changing decision. CKay disclosed that he left home under difficult circumstances, describing the move as drastic but necessary at the time. 

He noted that certain conditions surrounding his life then made it impossible for him to remain where he was while still chasing his dreams.

Despite the tension that once existed, the singer shared that his relationship with his parents has significantly improved over the years. 

Today, he enjoys their full support, something he deeply appreciates. He emphasized that his success is not just for himself but also for his family, adding that their encouragement now means a great deal to him.

Born Chukwuka Ekweani, CKay began his journey in the music industry as a producer and songwriter before stepping into the spotlight as a recording artiste.

 His breakthrough came with “Love Nwantiti,” a track that went on to achieve massive global success, earning billions of streams and placing him on the international stage.

Today, he stands as one of Nigeria’s notable global music exports, inspiring a new generation of artistes to follow their passion, regardless of the obstacles they may encounter along the way
