Nigerian filmmaker and actress Omoni Oboli has opened up about her journey into YouTube filmmaking, highlighting how consistency, audience engagement, and long-term planning helped her build a thriving digital film platform.

In a recent interview with Premium Times, Oboli explained that her success on YouTube did not happen by chance but was the result of intentional decisions made from the very beginning.

According to her, one of the most important strategies she adopted was building a strong and interactive community around her content. She noted that people naturally want to feel like they belong, and she ensured her audience felt included in the growth of her channel.

She said her viewers are not just passive consumers but active participants who contribute ideas and feedback.

This engagement, she explained, provides real-time insights that help improve the quality of her films. By constantly interacting with her audience, she has been able to understand their preferences and tailor her productions to meet their expectations.

Oboli also identified her 2025 project, Love in Every Word parts one and two, as a major turning point in her YouTube journey. She revealed that the success of the first part created strong demand for a sequel, giving her team confidence that the follow-up would perform well.

Despite working with a larger cast and more complex production elements, she disclosed that the sequel was completed within a short timeframe of about eight to nine days, with the wedding scene alone taking an entire day to shoot.

The filmmaker further revealed that her move into YouTube had been in the works for several years before she finally executed the plan.

She began shooting films around 2019, but the outbreak of COVID-19 disrupted her momentum, delaying both production and release schedules.

It wasn’t until about two years ago that she fully returned to the project and began consistently releasing content.

A key part of her strategy is maintaining a steady release schedule. Oboli shared that her team puts out new films every week, ensuring that there is always fresh content available for viewers.

She added that while they occasionally take breaks to allow the crew rest and time with their families, the production cycle remains continuous to sustain the platform’s growth.

Beyond creative fulfillment, Oboli emphasized the economic impact of her YouTube channel. She noted that many people depend on the platform for their livelihood, as it provides steady work for her crew.

According to her, the project goes beyond making profit, as it also supports families and creates opportunities within the industry.

She also explained that her focus on romantic films is deliberate, as such stories often provide comfort and emotional connection for audiences.

Since beginning her acting career in 1996, Oboli has featured in and produced several notable films, including The Figurine, Anchor Baby, and Wives on Strike, further solidifying her place in Nollywood.
