Funke Akindele’s Behind the Scenes Crashes Kava TV With Record Traffic

Nollywood filmmaker Funke Akindele has caused a stir in the entertainment industry with her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, which recently triggered a surge in user traffic on streaming platform Kava TV.

 The unprecedented influx of viewers briefly overwhelmed the platform’s servers, leading to a temporary outage, highlighting the film’s massive appeal both locally and internationally.

The film’s popularity comes on the back of Funke’s consistent track record of box office successes. Behind the Scenes currently ranks number one on Netflix for African audiences in Nigeria and also leads viewership on Kava TV among international audiences.

 Kava TV acknowledged the disruption in an Instagram post, stating that the traffic spike was “record-breaking” and had temporarily strained their server capacity. The platform assured viewers that its technical team was working tirelessly to resolve the issue, and later confirmed that services had been stabilised.

Beyond digital streaming, Behind the Scenes has achieved impressive commercial results. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the film grossed £159,000, emerging as the highest-grossing Nollywood release in those markets. 

At home, the film earned N2.7 billion at the Nigerian box office, placing it among Nollywood’s most commercially successful titles.

 The movie is distributed by FilmOne Entertainment and features a star-studded cast, including Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, alongside Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, and Mr Macaroni.

Funke Akindele’s success with Behind the Scenes adds to her growing legacy as one of Nollywood’s most influential filmmakers. 

Her previous films, such as Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Tribe Called Judah, have also set records in Nigerian cinemas, reinforcing her reputation as a filmmaker capable of delivering both critical acclaim and commercial appeal. 

Her ability to attract audiences across platforms demonstrates her understanding of modern viewership trends, especially the growing influence of digital streaming in Nollywood’s global reach.
