The Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Owoade, has debunked reports suggesting a breakdown in his relationship with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, insisting that there is no conflict between them.

Speaking with journalists at his residence in Boroboro, Oyo town, the monarch described the claims as unfounded, maintaining that his relationship with both leaders remains peaceful and respectful.

“I have nothing against the government. The governor has been very nice. If there is anything, I will meet him one-on-one, and we will talk about it,” he said.

He further explained that there has been no misunderstanding whatsoever between him and the state government, noting that his recent absence from public events was due to health reasons.

“There is no form of misunderstanding anyway. I have a good relationship with my governor. I have been indisposed for some time now. That is why I have been absent at state functions recently, but if there is a function, I will attend,” he added.

Addressing similar rumours about tension between him and the Olubadan, the Alaafin dismissed the claims and attributed them to misinformation spread by online platforms.

“My relationship with the Olubadan is cordial. Some people use online bloggers to join the popular bandwagon. There is no misunderstanding,” he stated.

According to him, certain individuals have deliberately tried to create unnecessary controversy by attaching negative meanings to ordinary situations.

“They create discord where none exists between just anyone and me. They attach meanings and issues to almost anything and everything,” he said.

The monarch also spoke about a viral incident that had fueled speculation of a rift between him and the Olubadan, clarifying that the situation had been misunderstood and peacefully resolved.

“I extended my hand to him, but he later explained that he did not see it. I don’t see it as an offence,” he explained.

He added that the issue was quickly settled afterward through communication and subsequent meetings.

“After that incident, he called me, and we later met again at Aso Rock during an iftar. There is no misunderstanding between us,” he said.

Reinforcing his position, the Alaafin noted that even the Olubadan had publicly denied any dispute, emphasizing the mutual respect they share.

“People have had to ask him, too, and he told them there was no issue between us. In fact, he picked up his phone to call me, and we spoke. There’s no issue whatsoever between us,” he said.

The monarch suggested that such rumours are often driven by public interest in the throne, adding that false narratives are sometimes inevitable in his position.

“People peddling rumours about me; it is because of the throne. Bloggers create problems where there are none. It is part of the job,” he remarked.

He reiterated that he holds no grudges against anyone and remains committed to maintaining peace.

“I have nothing against anybody,” he said.

The Alaafin also expressed appreciation to members of the media for their continued support, describing them as important partners in promoting the activities of the palace.

Looking ahead, he revealed plans for his upcoming birthday celebration scheduled for July 18, during which selected individuals will be honoured with chieftaincy titles.

Beyond ceremonial activities, the monarch highlighted ongoing development efforts within the kingdom. He disclosed that his administration has handled over 200 land dispute cases through the establishment of a dedicated committee involving chiefs and key stakeholders.

“In my one year in office, there are several initiatives I am implementing. So far, we have handled over 200 cases of land disputes, and to address these, I have established a Land Dispute Committee,” he said.

He also announced the construction of a community health centre valued at about N800 million, which is expected to be completed and commissioned in July.

“We are also working towards establishing a civic centre, in addition to the ongoing renovation of the palace,” he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to unity and progress, the Alaafin urged the public to ignore misleading reports and continue supporting traditional institutions and their role in societal development.
