Former Nigeria national football team striker Michael Eneramo has died after reportedly collapsing during a training session in Kaduna on Friday morning, shocking the Nigerian football community and leaving fans, teammates, and officials in deep mourning.

According to early reports, the 40-year-old forward slumped while training and despite immediate efforts to revive him, he could not be saved.

Medical assistance was quickly sought, but all attempts to resuscitate him proved unsuccessful, marking a tragic end to the life of a player once celebrated for his strength, skill, and goal-scoring ability.

Eneramo, who represented Nigeria at senior level, earned 10 international caps and scored three goals for the national team.

Although his time with the Super Eagles was relatively brief, he remained a respected figure in Nigerian football circles due to his performances both at home and abroad.

He began his professional career in the Nigeria Premier Football League with Lobi Stars FC, where his talent as a powerful and clinical striker quickly became evident. His performances attracted international attention, eventually earning him a move to North Africa with Tunisian powerhouse Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

Eneramo’s success in Tunisia opened the door for a long and successful spell in Europe, particularly in Turkey, where he featured for several clubs including Sivasspor, Beşiktaş, Karabükspor, Istanbul Başakşehir, and Manisaspor.

He became well known in the Turkish league for his physical presence, aerial ability, and consistent goal threat.

During his peak years, Eneramo was regarded as one of Nigeria’s most reliable attacking exports, earning admiration for his professionalism and work ethic. His career path also made him one of the notable Nigerian forwards to thrive in multiple competitive leagues outside Africa.

News of his passing has triggered an outpouring of grief from the football community, with former teammates, fans, and clubs expressing shock over the sudden loss. Many have described him as a committed player who gave everything whenever he stepped onto the pitch.

As tributes continue to pour in, the Nigerian football fraternity is reflecting on Eneramo’s contribution to the game, both at club and international level. His death leaves a significant void, particularly among those who followed his journey from the domestic league to the international stage.

Authorities and football officials are expected to release further details surrounding the circumstances of his passing in the coming days, as the nation comes to terms with the loss of one of its former international strikers.
