Nigerian singer Lojay has opened up about his early perception of fame, admitting that he once believed success in the music industry came with a lifestyle filled with excessive relationships and indulgence.

Speaking during an appearance on the I Said What I Said podcast, the “Monalisa” hitmaker revealed that his mindset has since changed after experiencing the realities of being a mainstream artiste.

According to him, while the entertainment industry presents numerous temptations, maintaining discipline is essential for anyone hoping to build a lasting career.

“There is a lot of temptation in the music industry. You will see a lot of things, but you are not meant to touch. I used to think I would frolic with a lot of ladies because there are babes everywhere. But when you have about 100 girls talking to you, that is when you need to cultivate discipline,” he said.

Lojay explained that his understanding of success evolved as he observed the careers of established artistes, often referred to as the “Big 3” in Afrobeats. He noted that longevity in the industry requires focus, restraint, and careful decision-making.

“I realised if you want a long career like the Big 3, you have to stay away from too many girls,” he added.

The singer further revealed that many of the glamorous aspects of the industry that once fascinated him as an upcoming artiste did not hold the same appeal after he gained fame. Instead, he discovered that there is a level of responsibility and structure that comes with being in the spotlight.

Contrary to popular belief, Lojay stressed that many artistes operate with a high level of discipline, largely because of the need to protect their image and reputation in the public eye.

He also credited his personality for helping him stay grounded, noting that he has been able to manage relationships and avoid the kind of excesses that could derail his career.

His comments offer a glimpse into the realities behind the fame often associated with the music industry, highlighting the importance of self-control and intentional living for artistes navigating success.

Lojay’s reflections add to ongoing conversations about the pressures of celebrity life and the conscious choices required to sustain relevance and growth in a highly competitive space.
