Isaac Ayomide Olayiwola, widely recognized as Layi Wasabi, has steadily carved out a unique space for himself in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Known for his intelligent humor and distinctive delivery, he represents a new generation of comedians who blend creativity with substance.
His rise from social media skits to mainstream Nollywood productions highlights both his versatility and growing influence.
Layi’s journey to fame began to gain serious attention around 2021 when his skits started going viral across platforms.
What set him apart early on was his unconventional style rather than relying on loud or exaggerated comedy, he built his brand on clever storytelling, satire, and a calm but humorous persona.
His ability to turn everyday situations into thought-provoking and hilarious content quickly earned him a loyal fan base.
By 2023, his rapid growth in the digital space had not gone unnoticed. He received the Emerging Force award at the Trendupp Awards, a recognition that confirmed his status as one of the fastest-rising creators in Nigeria.
However, it was in 2024 that his career reached an even higher level. At the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Layi won the Best Digital Content Creator award for his skit titled “Medical Negligence.” This achievement placed him firmly among the top content creators in the country.
One of Layi Wasabi’s biggest strengths lies in his memorable characters. His portrayal of “The Law,” a quirky and unconventional lawyer, remains one of his most popular creations.
Other characters like “Professor,” “Officer Robert,” and “Mr. Richard,” a fictional Ponzi scheme operator, have also contributed to his widespread appeal. Each role showcases his range and creativity, proving his ability to switch between personalities while maintaining a consistent comedic style.
In recent years, particularly in 2026, Layi has continued to dominate the digital space through collaborations with other well-known creators.
His skits featuring courtroom scenarios and job interview settings, often alongside comedians like Lasisi Elenu, have kept audiences entertained and engaged.
Beyond social media, Layi has successfully transitioned into Nollywood. He made his film debut in 2023 with “Adire,” where he played a bartender. Since then, he has appeared in several productions, including “Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre,” “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” “Japa!,” and “After 30.”
These roles have demonstrated his ability to adapt his comedic talent to more structured storytelling formats.
Despite his growing fame, Layi maintains a relatively private and grounded personal life. Born on July 11, 2001, in Osogbo, Osun State, he was raised by his mother and extended family following the early loss of his father.
He studied Law at Bowen University and is a qualified lawyer, although he chose to pursue content creation full-time. Interestingly, he often incorporates his legal background into his skits.
Layi is also known for promoting clean comedy. He avoids vulgarity and instead focuses on originality and intelligence, a decision that has helped him stand out in a crowded industry.
Though naturally introverted, his career has pushed him into the spotlight, where he continues to thrive while staying true to his personality.
