Asake has reflected on his rise in the music industry, crediting the city of Lagos for playing a major role in shaping both his personal growth and artistic direction.

Speaking in a recent conversation with Spotify, the award-winning singer, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, explained that relocating to Lagos after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, marked a turning point in his life. According to him, the bustling nature of the city helped him mature quickly and understand what it truly means to take responsibility as an adult.

Asake noted that many of his popular songs draw inspiration from experiences he encountered while trying to find his footing in Lagos.

He described the city as both challenging and inspiring, saying it pushed him to develop resilience and focus on his craft despite the difficulties that come with survival in a competitive environment.

The singer also expressed gratitude for how far his music has reached, acknowledging that his success is part of a much larger pool of talent within the Nigerian music scene.

He admitted that there are several artists who may even be more skilled than him, but have not yet had the opportunity to gain widespread recognition.

According to him, his journey serves as a reminder that talent alone is not always enough, as timing, exposure, and consistency also play a major role in determining success in the entertainment industry. He emphasized appreciation for the global acceptance his sound has received, attributing it entirely to divine grace.

Lagos, often regarded as the heartbeat of Nigeria’s entertainment industry, continues to serve as a launchpad for many young artists striving to break into the mainstream.

For Asake, the city was not just a place of struggle but also a training ground that shaped his identity and sound.

Since breaking into the spotlight, the singer has enjoyed massive success with multiple hit songs and international recognition. His unique style, blending Afrobeat with street-inspired rhythms, has earned him a strong fan base both locally and abroad.

Asake concluded that his journey is far from over, as he remains focused on growth, consistency, and delivering music that connects with people across different backgrounds.
